This my question : I have got to cross a 65 acre open bean field to get to my turkey setup, there is lightning everywhere its pouring down rain and the wind is blowing out of the east at approx 14mph.Should I carry my Rem. 870 by the wooden stock or should I carry it by the metal receiver? It is 58 mins till shooting time so give me some fast answers . when I get up later today I'll check for your responses

go back to bed. If lightning strikes it will not matter how you hold the gun.

Hunting in the rain is one thing... I never go in the woods when there are thunder storms coming... besides lightning, you've also got the possibility of high winds dumping limbs on your head... not a good option... besides, birds won't be moving in high winds, I wouldn't think...

Dead is dead whether or not you hold the gun either way.....Ever buy any insurance? Play the lotto?

Any thing that is long and attracts lighting is not good in a storm. The pro golfers learned this a few years ago. Now any time there is lightning in the area they quit. h.h.

Shotgun in the field with lightning in the area? Why do you think that they stop baseball games if there is lightning in the area? Stay in bed, hunt another day. Wait for clear Sky's in the morning, lite wind. Hunting should be a way of life not a game of nature roulette.

You can't kill a bird laying in bed. I just shot my bird this afternoon smack in the middle of the pouring rain, thunder and lightning and it didn't hurt me a bit...that gobbler might have a different opinion however.

Carry a lightning rod so the gun does not get damaged. ;D ;D ;D
STAY HOME until the lightning lets up. Good luck.

I'm with Gooseman..... Get out there and hunt....we aren't here to get our hair done! I wouldn't stand in the middle of the field during a lightning storm, I'd be set up about 5 yards deep into the edge waiting for a big gobbler!
