I was doing some thinking on either sex tags , and it just makes good sense to me to do this and rid the state of the OBR. I think we would have better deer hunting for the state, but the NRC and IDNR won't go for it unless we all say we want it. What do you all think about this.

How would either sex tags improve the deer hunting?

Either sex for gun season would be nice. May stop some yearling bucks from being killed. I don't see anything wrong with OBR.

How does getting rid of OBR make any sense?

I hunt in Ohio. They sell an either sex tag and doe permits. Last year, I filled both doe tags. My either sex tag went unused during bow season as I was looking for antlers. I hunted their short gun season using the same either sex tag. On the last day of gun, I decided to fill my either sex tag with a mature doe. I was wore out and ready for ice fishing season. I could have passed the doe and continued to hunt in muzzleloader and late archery with the same either sex tag.
That is why an either sex tag makes sense.

Yep...that is what I have always said - Last day of gun season and a fork horn closely follows a big mature doe. The hunter has a general firearm BUCK only tag in his pocket. He HAS to shoot the forky or go home empty handed. Give us a choice..... The OBR is a totally different subject...

I can't remember the name of the State Biologist I talked to before the OBR came into effect but he told me this. The OBR has not really worked anywhere it's been tried. A hunter will pass on that "forky" early in the season, but will take him when the season is about over. Simply to fill his/her tag they PAID for. His opinion was it becomes basicly a wash.

And everyone is entitled to their opinion.
My opinion of the OBR is very positive.

And everyone is entitled to their opinion. My opinion of the OBR is very positive. Could not agree more about the opinion thing. Anyone who is just hunting deer, their's is only an opinion. A biologist might just be basing his/her statement on more than just an opinion though. Like actual data maybe? Not wanting to beat the dead horse OBR thing, it's here and we have learned to live with it. Can't see it going away so proponents of it are safe. Personally, I saw plenty of mature bucks most places I hunt before it, and have seen no difference in their numbers since. Just my .02.

Pretty rediculous isn't it. Past time to change the tag structure for sure.

X3....How would killing 2 Bucks make hunting better state wide? x4 I have seen far better bucks and more young bucks in my hunting woods, since the OBR. The guys that hunt with me or around me, have been more selective to the bucks they shoot. Allowing the small ones to grow. I love the rule and hope it stands the test of time. but, i also favor the earn a buck program

on the either sex gun tag. The state is dooming thousands of young bucks to an early death because of the buck only tags and will apparently continue to do so. Dumb, dumb, dumb........

more bucks have died annually since OBR than before. Its a feel good regulation with zero actual merit.
I agree. make firearms either sex like archery and muzzy.
