And the "Thunder" was a pair of .44 mag Handi Rifles!
whitetail1 and I had a great hunt today with our boys. It was windy as all getout but we headed to the woods anyway. It has been 10 years since my son Jarod has taken a deer. He was always playing basketball and that shot most of his seasons due to practice and games. And then he got married and moved to Virginia for a few years. This year was to be set for a little time back in the woods.
From the get up of the sun, we had deer moving all around us. I had told my son "green light" for any deer that came along. He was at first set on waiting for a buck to come in but I really wanted him to take a deer at a given chance. He did - dropped a doe with a ~25 yd shot and we watched her go all of 15 yards and crumple.
I don't remember when I've been so excited.
It was just a bit later when w1 son whitetailchaser22 smoked another beautiful doe and he even got it on video! The craziest part is that he was hunting in our creek bottom and the deer ran up a huge ravine right past my son and I and crumpled right in front of us. It was so crazy for Jarod and I to sit in the stand and look down in front of us and see w22 deer ~15 yards and then look behind us and see Jarod's deer about the same!
Man the deer were moving. Jarod and I alone saw 13 deer from the stand and another 7 on the way out to gut them. w1 and w22 saw some more, so all told we probably saw 20+ deer and a number of bucks cruising, birdoggin, and plain chasin does!
Here is a shot of the boys for another memory of a lifetime:
After gutting the deer we had to initiate Jarod as this has become the tradition with all of the boys 1st deer on the property (a little deer blood warpaint):
Little did I know the fun was just starting. Before the night was over, Jarod had a half dozen friends over to my garage to partake in the processing. None had ever seen anything like before so it turn into a great big ole friends and family party!
