Well things were slower yesterday than i expected but, for my nephew it was his best day ever!! This is my nephews 2nd year as a hunter and he took a buck, he will be hard pressed in our neck of the woods to beat. I sat him in a stand about 75-100 yds. away from me, just in case. I had this buck come thru the ravine at about 40yds., to my left about 2:15 yesterday afternoon, I could tell he was a brute and guessed him at 145-150", he was headed towards my nephew, who is set up on the same ravine. I decided to pass on the buck in hopes he would get a shot. He was moving at a steady pace and stopped to work a scrape while in my eyesight. after i lost him in the brush, it was about 2 minutes I heard my nephew shoot. It was about 10 seconds and i got a text. I SHOT A BIG BUCK AND WHEN HE RAN BY HE WAS POURING BLOOD FROM BEHIND HIS SHOULDER.
I told him to wait till i got there and we would look for him together, i figured it would give the buck a chance to bed and expire as well. I got to his stand and he was already out and standing where he said he last seen him. We picked up the blood trail for about 45 yds. thru some thick stuff and we seen antlers, sticking above a log. In all he ran about 60yds. He was using my Omega, his first year with a muzzleloader. I am proud of my sister's eldest and hope it is the first of many wall hangers for him. I let him know next year, i will not let one walk by, for him to shoot. Who am i kidding, yesterday is the first time, I have been excited about a dead deer in 10 years or better. seeing the smile on his face was worth all the extra work.
Best picture I have on my cell, the picture does not do him justice. He has 13" g3's, he is a typical 10 with a split brow on the right, for 11points.
