I will have to say that this season has been the worst for me that I can ever remember. As of November 11 last year I had seen 223 deer from my stand, this year 101. I think that standing corn had alot to do with this and also the fact that there were so many red oak acorns. Where I hunt I have very few red oaks and lots of standing corn. I was getting frustrated to say the least. Add that to the fact that a 2 big bucks were hit on the road in my area, I was not getting a good feeling about this season.
Monday found me in a tree in shortsleeves thinking that between 70degree temps and wind I was basically just killing time. Well at 9:50 I heard a low grunt and looked down to see a pretty nice buck come in on me and lay down 75 yds from me in a holler out of the wind. I watched him for a little bit before noticing there was a doe bedded between me and him. She had slipped in and I hadn't even seen her. Luckily the wind was blowing from them to me. I couldn't decide if I wanted to shoot this buck or not. I couldn't get a real good luck at his left side but I could tell he had a good right side and what appeared to be 5 on the left to. I watched this buck in his bed for 2 hours, almost the whole time I had him in my scope trying to decide what to do. At 11:45 after not hardly moving a muscle for 2 hours I was starting to give in. I was getting hungry and thirsty and started to think that I had better just shoot. After all this is the biggest buck I had seen all year hunting, shining, or on camera. I thought to myself this could very likely be the biggest buck I see this year. I didn't think about it anymore, I cocked the hammer and BOOM. Dead Deer. He scores 145" and is a mainframe 10pt with stickers on both brows.
