How hard is it to unload a gun?! I just don't get it; five seconds to take the shells out and the young man would still be alive. It's sickening really. Prayers go out for his family.

What a waste of life... Do not want to pass judgement but it was probably he was not trained to do it right. Unload and muzzle down.

Let this be a lesson to all of us. NEVER let your guard down when it comes to safe gun handling.

One would wonder if the young man was trained properly or if he just forgot?
I never left my son until he was safely in the stand and ready. He didn't get down until I came after him. He might have got a little perturbed at me for the CONSTANT safety reminders but I think it soaked in..
He is a grown man today and I still worry about him.
A second of carelessness can produce a lifetime of grief..

This happens all too often and is sad. A few years back friends of ours from church let their sons go "hunting" with their half-brother. Their half-brother received a new shotgun from his biological father with no instruction from anyone. Our friends had no experience with guns or hunting. Anyway, the hunt ended sadly when the then young teen leaned his shotgun against a fence while he helped his younger brothers over the fence. The movement of the fence while climbing made the shotgun fall to the ground. The gun discharged and blew most of the knee off of one of the younger brothers. I think he was around 8 years old. He almost bled to death and to this day "deals" with the results of the accident. His old brother was devestated and was never the same. So sad and so preventable.

"Serves him right for trying to kill innocent animals. Deer one, hunter zero." A comment from one of the people on there, I don't know if that person would still be standing up if he said the comment to me...
