I was just looking at iowa's deer seasons and notice that the ML season last 30 days of two periods, first season is oct. 15-23 and the second is dec. 19- jan. 10 why don't we do that? There shotgun season is dec. 3-7 and dec. 10-18 13 days and archery is the same as ours. This is the top B&C state and they can hunt for two bucks. so why dosent the lovly NRC and DNR do this for us?

on the magic mud. Indiana seasons are too long now Mr. Rasmussen, If you can never find the first buck you shoot why worry about shooting two?

I wish the season split in two. I have problems getting time off in the fall

Its to long the way it is. After a couple days of firearm its pot luck anyway. Best chance of a nice buck is the first week of archery. From my experience anyway.

Why not make firearm season the first two weeks of October, then archery next 30 days, then muzzleloader last 2 weeks, then a "clean up" week where you can use any legal equipment for bonus only but only for your left over tags, no new tags sold

Spook the Hell out of em the first two weeks of October and then bow hunt?? Don't sound like a plan to me. Use of left over tags is a good idea.

Use of left over tags is a good idea. but they will settle down after a week or so, they always do Just an idea, figured my last one was taken wrong I'd throw a bone at the firearm people. LOL Honestly the DNR should look at stats for all seasons if they want to limit the seasons. Look at when the bulk of the deer are harvested and make a couple day buffer on each side Say most bow kills are taken October 14 through November 10, make the season in that period give or take a day or two. I personally don't have a problem with any of the seasons as they are now, bow guys get more days because it is harder and they harvest a lot less. Firearm has limited days but get to hunt in the peak of the rut. People can use a X bow late season as well as extended season for ML folks and those bow hunters dumb enough ( myself) to hit the late December freeze in search for a late bow kill.

I personally wouldn't want a gun season in October. If you want to hunt in October, buy a bow. I do think Muzzleloader could be extended a few days. Not as many folk hunting that late anyway.
Of course, a lot of people want shorter gun seasons because they think we'll turn into Iowa or Illinois if we go that route. Even if we have a 1 day gun season we will never produce as many B&C class deer as the top states.

kinda hard to "be like Iowa" with the different population densities, amount of habitat, hunter densities, huntable ground.....

Copy and Paste Illinois season structure into ours, Then cut and copy Kentucky's license structure into ours.

They should have a primitive muzzeloader season in oct. Like, Open breech and sidelock only. No 209 primers

Even better.... flintlock, matchlock, wheel lock only.... that would seperate the dedicated from the rest! Plus, it would be really cool.

I hunt with a flintlock muzzleloader and I do not want a lock, ignition system, powder, projectile specific season I.E. side lock, caplock, round ball at any time. Inlines give me indigestion, smokeless ML make me want to puke but if it loads from the front then it is by definition a muzzleloader. They all load from the muzzle so let the idea die. You all like what Iowa or Illinois does fine hunt there. Let's leave the seasons alone. Hell let's do... Like Wisconsin and allow party hunting Like Michigan and allow baiting Like Texas and allow high fence Like the states that allow dog running Like...

I am all for extending bow season until Jan. 31. No reason not to. Ohio's goes that long. Not that many people would hunt, except me.

If you want what Iowa or any other state does with there deer seasons than move there. Leave well enough alone.
