I am using a Rem. Super Mag. 12 g. and shoot 3 1/2 in. Kent Faststeel through a IC choke. For Ducks I down shift to 3 in. shells through a mod. choke. #4 steel shot for Ducks, and #BB steel for Geese.

You guys do hunt migratory birds down there don't you? If not then I'll retract my post.

Don't mind 10point, he is one of those number cruncher types and you all know how they are.... He just thought you punched the wrong key. Perfectionist can't stand to see errors  I use Benelli Nova 3.5" Faststeel BB's for geese and 3" #4's for ducks. IC or M choke. Also have a Benelli M1S90 I use a little for ducks on the river with a cylinder choke. |

Benelli SBE 12 for the dry day hunts and Rem Super Mag for the nasty days when the duck hunting is really fun. Got bout a case of BB Win. High Velocity left over from last year so pry just use those for geese...3 1/2 #3 for ducks generally.

Duff is right, I am a perfectionist.
I also us a Benelli Nova and so far have only used 3 inch shells. I like to use #1's when hunting for ducks and geese both.
Have spent some time the last few weeks making some more homemade silo's and repainting the old ones.

Haven't tried to hard. Got one field last year that hopefully I can back in this year. Still trying to learn the area. Don't have them flying over my house like I used to but I do have better deer hunting over here.

I get them flying over my house continuosly. I live beside a river a lake on both sides. Can't shoot any firearms in City boundary. But I can watch them. When it's time to hunt them I drive to a couple of Farms I can hunt for Geese, and to the lake edge for Ducks. Never more than 20 min. drive.

John : I'm shooting a factory camoed , Rem 870 SP 12 gauge , 3 inch challenger steel # 2's and BB's for geese , # 4's for ducks . We do mostly field set-ups , with pop-up chairs .... I sue to use a lot of siloettes with my shell decoys ... but now we use shell decoys only .... usually 6 to a dozen around the chair , in the middle of the field ... a deadly combo . Here is a picture of one of my hunting partners with my gear .... he use to shoot an old IGA O/U ... now he shoots an 870 SP black synthetic .  I've got a 9 year old female Springer ( got her from a local breeder when she was 11 months old ) .... most guys say she is too small for geese ... but she doesn't seem to mind ! ;D Here she is carrying a bird in the early season at a field set up , and a bird in the extended season out of the icy river .   Most guy's in our group are running Springers .. If you are from Southern Ontario ... we have probably shot at some of the same geese ! ;D ;D |

RJ: The Geese look bigger than the poor dog. Lots of heart eh!  I also mostly field set- up, on my brothers farm or his neighbor. Sometimes Though I get the urge to Duck hunt and hit the ponds or lake edge. I seem to get more at ponds. I wont say if we probably shot at some of the same Geese as that might imply we miss some! ;D |

As for my dog Sally .... she weighs approx. 35 lbs .... when it comes to field work ... she's 100 % heart !
duff : it was a cold snap after a warm spell in January , a few seasons back , during our extended goose season ... the river was broken up ( you can see the river in the background of the shot ) ... it was imperative to have a dog along on that hunt ! .... it was nice to get a picture of that retrieve !

My goose/duck gun is a Browning Super BPS 12 ga. in Shadow Grass camo. I'm pretty much a Heavy Shot only guy when it comes to ducks and geese. I still have some 3 1/2" steel that I bought a few years ago that I throw in when I'm low on Heavy Shot, or for like the duck opener when they fly close and are easier to bring down. I pretty much use 3" #2's in Heavy Shot for geese. We strictly field hunt for geese. I have a Final Approach blind, two dozen shells, and a dozen socks. I have two buddies that I hunt a lot with that have 11 dozen Big Feet between them (no kidding!). It is insane when we put all the decoys out. Doesn't really pull geese in any better, but it sure does look impressive. ;D Personally, I think the smaller spread of 3 dozen works best most of the time. Outside of that, I have one new goose hunting accessory for this year. Sunshine. Here she is, 10 months old. This will be her first season.  |
