I finally got a deer with my Savage ML! Friday night at 4:45, this mutant racked buck made the mistake of walking within 70 yds of my stand. He was in some brush, so I bleated and got him to stop in somewhat of a clearing. I put the scope on his shoulder, and boom he takes off rolling/running down the hill. He went about 60 yds, but I'm sure if he wouldn't have been going down hill it would have been considerably less. He had a long (12") tine on the left with one little point, and on the right it grew down his face and formed into a ball. It looks like some weird club, and still in velvet too. He must have been hit by a car, because his skull plate was busted and caused the deformity. When I skinned him he had a huge bruise on his ribs and ham. It looked like he had been in a fight with another buck because he had 2 holes in the meat but not through the hide. Anyways, a weird deer, but I'm happy to have him. First gun deer, adn first time I got 2 in one season. ;D

What is your opinion of the Savage 10ml? What load were you using?

I'll see about a pic asap. I love the Savage! I shot through some brush and still hit him right where I was aiming. The load I'm using is a 250gr, .452 XTP bullet over 48gr of IMR 4227. It broke both shoulders and destroyed the lungs. I recovered the bullet it measured ..493 and weighed in at 239gr, pretty good performance in my book!
