A buddy of mine was in Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge today and found a dead deer floating in a creek. Hopefully this deer died from something other than EHD but it doesn't look good. There are no highways close to where this deer was found so you gotta wonder whats up.

EHD sucks. It more or less for a couple years after the terrible out brake we had in 2006 made seeing a deer special. We have rebounded nicely now so I sure hope it doesn't rear it's ugly head again in this area. It was so bad that about any country road you drove down you could smell the stink of death. There were few water holes or ditches that did not have dead deer floating in them. I was glad that the fall archery turkey season happened. I spent more time looking to kill a gobbler than a deer for a couple years. I envied those that were seeing and killing nice deer at the time. Those that has never experienced this terrible disease are in for a very rude awakening. I sure was.

I hope and pray it isn't EHD, This is one of the hunts I look forward to the most. Did he report the deer he found?

He reported it. Dad had a buddy in Decatur County yeaterday that had a mature buck run up in his backyard acting sick, then fell over and died. NOT GOOD.

Mother nature can be cruel, but there will be plenty of deer in the wood's come hunting season. Not gonna drink the kool-aid. (Deer die of disease all the time.) Maybe a few more with this year's drought?? Probably??? Nature's cure for over population???
