Ive hunted for 25 years in southern jefferson county past 3 years been awful ive hunted everyday this yearseen 4 does 4 little bucks no deer in fields at evening anywhere something bad wrong down here. Could be due to a couple of issues: 1. Poaching 2. The Deer are in the woods due to abundant acorn crop this season.

so was this just a hidden brag post now that you posted the pictures??
Could be countless factors, two of which could include what doug said others could be EHD, area crop changes, unusual wind patterns, unknown pressure of some kind and countless others. I feel ya though, I've seen a lot less this year...however our trail cams are still picking up deer....but not NEARLY as many on our one property. The doe numbers at one property seem non-existent where as the other property seems to have hardly any does at all and it's about 70 acres in comparison to our little 10 acre other one....doesn't make sense!

just used to see deer like these all the time, the one i shot in 2011 was the only decent deer seen all year just seems really odd to me where they went. used to see 7 to 10 does everyday you could count on it now even lucky to see 2. just all adds up to fewer deer, trails are gone, alot fewer rubs, ill see the first 2 weeks of november when rut starts thats when youll see them, but i have never had early bow this slow.

Indiana is in the midst of a deer reduction, so it's normal to be seeing less if you tagging out every year. If you actually have less, and want more, back off on the killing somewhat for a year or two.

Looks like you have had it really rough the last 3 years. Hopefully your luck will change and you won't have to settle for dinks like those.
How do you do one of those emoticons that sarcastically rolls his eyes?

haha! I've been seeing less deer too, some of it is a normal cycle like Timex said...however EHD is starting to hit my area (confirmed)...both play a factor.

EHD normally ends once a frost hits, and most areas of Indiana have had a couple by now

EHD normally ends once a frost hits, and most areas of Indiana have had a couple by now Very true but biologists say one must wait a week or two before knowing for certain the disease is done as some deer die very quickly and others can last as many as 14 days. You had any cases by you Time at all this year?

I have hunted Jefferson Co. for 12 years close to Brooksburg. Last two years have been slow for me as well. Last year I saw around 50 deer for the year weekends and holidays. Years before that it was well over 300 deer a year.

I used to hunt in Jefferson County a lot. My family had sponsorship at Jefferson Proving Ground.
It was common 15 years ago to drive around Jefferson Proving Ground and see 50 to 75 deer standing off the roads. Now days you can't even see half as many Deer there.
Since JPG became Big Oaks the Deer numbers have fallen a lot. There are still some great Bucks there, but not as many as there were 10 to 15 years ago imo.
Also, Many states have fewer deer now than 5 or 10 years ago. Kentucky has 150,000 to 200,000 Less Deer today than it did 10 years ago.
Indiana probably has less Deer today in some areas/ counties than it did 5 to 10 years ago because of Blue Tongue and increased Doe harvest.
I would not shoot any does, yearlings, or small Bucks if I were you for a few years, then perhaps your deer numbers will increase.

eddiea787 let me first tell you, those are some fine whitetail bucks you have in the photos.I have the same problem in my area with the doe population. There are more bucks than does in the areas I hunt but the overall population in general is trending lower. The 2007 EHD outbreak hit my section of vermillion county hard. The reason the population didn't recover IMO was due to this county having an bonus antlerless quota of 8.It never had a chance to rebound and with the ongoing doe reduction program I doubt it ever will.

thanks on the deer i saw 2 bucks 2 years ago that was over 200 bigger than these but aint seen em since, i think your right as many does you can kill the deer will have hard time recovering, ive seen a slight increase in buck size since the 1 buck rule but when gun opens most people shoot anything that walks and when they hit the woods and start not seein deer they really will i think need some season changes. look at illnois and ohio, even kentucky laws, if study real hard thats why they have giant bucks
