Yesterday I scouted Chain for the up coming deer reduction hunt and found 4 dead deer lying along a creek. One was a small buck and the others were does.
I talked to one of the employees and he told me they had found 17 and two were really nice bucks. He said Im sure there are a lot more we haven't found. He also said a lot of the parks neighbors have reported finding dead deer.
Ive hunted there 9 out of the last ten years and this year is the least amount of sign Ive ever seen. Not many deer tracks at all in the sand and very few trails and the trails I did see werent being used.
I surprised the DNR didnt shut down the hunt this year. h.h.

Sorry to hear this, Indiana is supposed to be getting a good cold snap soon but it's not going to bring back those already dead. So far here in Miami county sign has been okay but actual deer sightings down a bit. (Have a buck tearing the heck out of trees with rubs) If they do have a hunt at Chain O Lakes it sounds like they are into serious herd reduction. I hope the DNR looks hard at harvest numbers this year. Even if we do manage to kill near normal numbers will not necessarily mean there are enough deer alive, after all we did manage to hunt the Whitetail deer to extinction last century. EHD areas may need a reduction in doe tags.
