The smile on the young mans face tells the story. No game was bagged but it sure didn't matter to him.Like lwb said very well, its about teaching and having fun with our youngsters in the great outdoors.I took my two grandsons(11 and 7)both saturday and sunday this week end for squirrels and the bonding and memories were priceless. There is too much emphasis in our sport of hunting on how big or how many by some and it takes away from the real hunting expereience of others.Good luck to you and the boy.

Thanks guys, we were working the garage and he said lets go hunting. I said OK what do you want to hunt ducks, geese, deer, squirrels? He picked squirrels. He did say if we got enought he wanted to take them to the local Chinese restaurant sell them for his favorite dish...squirrel on a stick. We worked on his shooting skills and gun handling safety. Overall we had a lot of fun.
turkeyscout, no disrespect intended. I am a habitual misspell-er of squirrel and have fallen into the habit of using tree rat instead of squirrel. Now that these message boards have spell check built into them I can spell much better!

I believe the future of hunting lies with the younger generation and what us old timers teach them.I have hunted for almost 60 years and have taken alot of game in that time,I still love to hunt but could care less if I get anything when my grandson is with me.If he gets something thats great but its a learning experence for him and making memories for both of us.

BINGO. I was just glad he wanted to go. I am letting him and his sister go at their own pace. I ask but don't push. He likes to hunt and she likes to fish...I think I got it made!
