From Indiana's gun opener and I couldn't be happier.
My step dad and I have a big trip planned for Greene county. He is staying Saturday night in the RV and I am staying until Wednesday evening unless I score sooner. Basically just playing it by ear. We did the grocery shopping today, we are set.
The land owner down there complains of way to many deer in the area, so I told him I would do my part and get a handful off his land.
Get your orange out, it's time to sling some lead!
Be safe! Mike

It's also the time of year when the snobby bow hunting crowd start bad mouthing gun hunters. I see it a lot on other sites and on Facebook. I just posted the following response to a Facebook post on the Indiana Whitetails page that was turning quickly into an anti-gun season thread. I guess I set them straight! 'Tis the season when all the elitist, snobbish, nose in the air, my way is the only true way, bow-only hunters start casting aspersions and calling names. Oh no, here comes the "Orange Army"...here comes the "Bubba Brigade". It makes me want to puke every year (and I am a bow-hunter)! Bow hunters have a month and a half all to themselves. If it weren't for gun hunters paying the bills and doing the majority of the herd management, hunting wouldn't be near as good as it is today, if in fact we'd even have a herd to hunt at all! Get your head out of the clouds and be happy that a lot of hunters will finally get their chance to enjoy the woods. They don't need your approval or your blessing. Check yourselves! I got my buck in archery season this year, but most years, I'd be licking my chops for a chance at the MOST exciting day of the year...the time honored gun opener!

Way to go Meta. I, like you am a bow hunter, and a bow hunter that has opened my eyes to a greater chance to harvest more animals. My first two years hunting I was strictly bow. Both of those years I only harvested 1 doe. However, since going to firearms I have been able to harvest enough where my family can eat venison a couple times a week.
Even when I just hunted with a bow, I didn't have a problem with gun hunters. It is their decision to hunt with a gun, I just chose to go with a bow.
Enjoy what you do and don't worry about others.

These are the same guys that want to eliminate the youth hunts. Its crazy. Opening day gun is a day I've looked forward to ever since I was 8. I bow hunt hard but there's nothing like that opener in mid November.

As most of you know I’ve been involved in this regulation changing game for the last 12 or so years. It was in 2001 that I had to start using a crossbow and after a few trips to the stand I thought “This is no different. Why can’t everyone use a crossbow, if that is their desire”?
So, I got involved. not only with getting crossbows allowed for everyone, but I became interested in the whole process. I found out pretty quickly that the “the elitist, snobbish, nose in the air” folks were in a very distinct minority. Albiet organized groups and very vocal minority. At that time the DNR and NRC were pretty well convinced that these vocal, organized groups spoke for every hunter in Indiana. One of the officers of such a group told me that “perception is reality”. When I first started a DNR official told me if I wanted to be heard that I NEED to organize a group. LOL…I’m not much of an “organizer.”
I firmly believe that when the DNR and NRC started accepting Administrative Rule Change input via their websites that it finally dawned on them that these groups did not speak for anyone but their own members, and not all of them. Just because a group can have 100 to 300 members does not mean that they speak for anyone. That “perception” is no longer there. There have been a number of changes since then that these groups were flat set dead against. There was also a couple items that they wanted that did not cut the muster.
Look for some more changes being proposed, but know that the DNR and NRC will do what they think is best for ALL hunters, not just a few organized ones. This is how it should be…
