Hey all, I just wanted to see how you would deal with this situation.
In November or 2012 I shot 2 does with my muzzle loader. It was my second and third deer in Indiana. To celebrate I thought I would get the bigger of the two tanned. So I took it to my local taxi and he said it would be done around may. May came around and I called him, he said he would never have told me may. So I ask when it will be ready. He said he just got off the phone with them and it will be aug. Well after several phone calls and a stopping in, there is no end in sight. It will be two years in November, what should I do. I'm not going to die if I don't get it anytime soon, but I did give the guy $60 when I dropped it off. Should I wait it out or try to get my money back?
By the way, I sent last years doe of dafter Christmas and had it back by June.
Thoughts?
Thanks. Mike

I would guess its gone. Either he lost it or used it on another project. Try and get your $60 back.

My first taxidermist went 2 years before getting mounts back to me a couple times. I never really minded, because I knew him well and knew I'd eventually get it back, and when I did, it would be quality work.
I wouldn't give up quite yet on it. I'd just make a habit of stopping in every month or 2 to ask about it. If he acts like he doesn't want you there, then I'd come right out and ask him if it's even still around and/or ask for my money back. However, it is hard to believe that he would want to tarnish his reputation over $60 and a doe hide.

Thanks for the feedback gents. I will probably stop by this week after work and see how he reacts to the situation - although it will probably be the same answer.
Thanks again.

From experience you will probably get a cape back, just not yours at this point. Dad took an elk cape in to get tanned. After almost two years he gets it back. Took it home and looked at it. He called the taxi and said this isn't my cape. The taxi argued with him for several minutes until dad said,"this one has a bullet hole in the shoulder. I shot mine in the head." Don't know who you are using but this one was a well known taxi.

file a complaint with the BBB and the state attorney general. Man its amazing what a call from the AT will do to get a business back in line.

And tell us all who you used so we can avoid doing business with them.
