I got a soon to be 8 yr old boy and 10 yr old girl. We are wanting to do something fun with the family. I wanted to go to a reds game, daughter wanted to go but son doesn't...My wife and I are thinking a cave tour would be fun. Son thinks it sounds good but daughter doesn't...cabin on the Ohio sounds good but kids don't want it....
I am fried and looking for a family adventure. TOld the kids we will go somewhere and they will know when we get there. Hopefully they will hate it and fight the whole time so I can get some entertainment value out of it.
Any of you guys have any suggestions on what to do for a weekend get away in this area? I got family from Cave City so I really would like to go there and hack around but really open to a 3 hour drive anywhere from Bedford. If you got a suggestion I am all for it.
Thanks, duff

I took my Girl Scout troop to Mammoth Cave a few years ago. We did two tours, but I would suggest the "Lamplight Tour". There are several other small attractions close including the ferry across the Green River and a State Park with a really nice swimming area and beach.

Turkey Run, Brown County, and Clifty Falls are some of our favorite state parks. Brown County has a pretty cool aquatics center at the inn, plus the Nashville stuff the womenfolk usually like.
My kids liked the train ride in French Lick. Cave country canoes in English (Blue River) is pretty fun too.

I just did this last Saturday. It's good, probably one of the better show cave tours. It's also close enough to Marengo and Squire Boone if you need more than that to fill in the whole weekend as well as Harrison Crawford State Forrest. Leavenworth is worth a tour and Corydon can be done as well probably in a day. Just a little google work and it's not hard to fill a weekend in that area. After the ticks have cooled out a little bit post again if you want something a little more rustic and robust like wilderness camping.

Falls of the Ohio SP (great exposed Devonian fossil bed)
followed by a trip into Louisville to the: Louisville Slugger Museum Thomas Edison House Kentucky Science Center
and before heading home, swing by Bass Pro in Clarksville
and there's also the General Patton Museum at Ft. Knox

May not be what you're looking for but a camping trip to Lincoln State Park and a trip to Holliday World is a BLAST for that age group then you could run east on I-64 and catch a cave Tour at Wyndotte or others in the area there's also a nice trails in HNF not too far off of I-64.

Terre Haute, take them on the federal prison tour tell them they might end up there some day. Meh, they get tired of visiting grandpa there. The novelty wore off fast.

We are leaning towards indiana caverns. My wife wants to go there and I know both kids will like it. May look at a cabin on the ohio to top it off.
There were some great ideas though, they all have been kicked around. I still may change.my mind...
