I really thought I'd get amongst them, yesterday. sunny, still, low 40's. I hunted the same woods that I popped the two posted above. Nobody had hunted this 30 acre woods, all year. Net result, the snow was loud and crunchy. I hunted 2 1/2 hrs., and only saw two, from a distance, and they were running at about mock 9. No squirrels. That may be it for me depending on the weather next weekend.

Finally back at it. Took a four-day weekend and went with my uncle and his dog for three days of chasing squirrels through the woods. Probably only got 1 squirrel for every 5 times that the dog treed; there were a ton of den trees. I got 7 of the 12 squirrels for the weekend (1 Friday, 4 Saturday, and 2 Monday).
I really enjoy hunting behind the dog during the late season.

Stepped into the woods today and squirrels everywhere. So I climbed into a stand and sat and watched. Only thing...all the rats were 50 to 100 yards out. And it felt so good I figured I'd let them come to me. Well, they didn't cooperate and I was too lazy to stalk them. So, I just sat in the Little York sunshine and enjoyed the woods. And then this big ole girl scurried just a little too close to my Ruger Takedown! 1 more for team 2:

Good going, OH. Don't suppose ya have any pics of that dog doing his thing, do ya? maddog Didn't take a camera to the woods; will have to next time. We were pretty busy trying to beat it to the tree to keep the squirrel from timbering or heading for a hole. That seems to be the bad part of our areas being taken over with gray squirrels; they don't like to stick around long above a barking dog.

um...sure is truthfully, I missed five in a row today. Found a target to check my sights and it was shootin 8 high and 2 right. Got it dialed in with two rounds left in the gun. Got this guy. The other round was a dud. tried three times at three different squirrels. They were everywhere today.

Add 1 more for Squirrel Team 6, it was raining/snowing on Squirrel Appreciation Day for me but I went out anyway since a co-worker and myself went in to work early so we could chase the elusive limb chicken. The crappy weather really had them laid up and we only saw two, lucky to get the one we did. First squirrel I've shot with a shotgun in close to 10 years, definitely different than shooting them with a rifle that's for sure... quite fun . Sorry no picture, it was dark when we got back to the truck and the old flip phone doesn't take very good pictures at night so I didn't even bother.

Did the math. We are at 388 squirrels for the season. Suppose we can get 12 more between now and next Sat. at sunset? It'd be cool to hit 400 for the season!
