a purebred dog if two purebred dogs of different breeds, lock up and have pups. And who in there right mind pays that kind of money for a MUTT. I swear anytime someone's female gets out and goes around the neighborhood and meets the first willing male, we have a new designer dog. Its a MUTT!!! 10 years ago we got them for free from the local farmer. I don't care. Labradoodle, golden doodle, puggle. Whatever. Its a MUTT. Thank you.

Didnt all the "pure" breeds start out as mutts?
The "doodles" are a hot commodity right now....expensive too.

Just something that bothers me. My wife told me about her friends new dog she payed big money for. Its a mastiff-st.Bernard mix. We started the same old argument about it being a purebred. I guess I don't get what the problem is with owning a mutt. No one wants to admit it. Don't know how many times people told me they have a black lab and I see it and best I can tell is, yep its black. Its just easier to argue with you guys than sleep on the couch argueing with her.

Yep. I got one of those kinds of mutts. Truth is.....I think the only difference between a mutt and a "breed" is if it was done on purpose or not. Like my Walker. (American and English foxhound cross) For the record Dew puts their last three characteristics to the test. Especially the last one where he supposedly rates low in the watch dog abilities. Oh my word. If in my old junker truck or here at home, anything or anyone around and I am not in his immediate view or if I am gone, he goes absolutely Cujo. I had him chained to a cement block and the UPS guy decided to stop the truck in the road and run TOWARDS the house. Wrong........ I heard Dew go off and by the time I got out the door Dewey had the UPS guy 80 yards away running for his life and Dew hot on his tail......pulling the cement block. www.vetstreet.com/dogs/treeing-walker-coonhoundJust adding a little more levity. God Bless

God Bless I think most of those delivery guys probably have some pretty good dog stories. I had a miniature beagle that we had recently put an underground fence collar on. Second best dog I've ever had. He knew the boundaries, but would still get so excited when someone would come over that he'd forget all about it and run out to meet them. One day, the Fed-Ex guy pulled up with some tires I had bought online, and parked just across the invisible line. He opens up the side door of the truck, and little Wally hops right in with him. Well, the collar gives 3 warning beeps before the shock, so the dog just had time to hop inside the truck before he gets it.. He started screaming and carrying on inside the truck, darting around all the packages inside, I'm running out there barefoot to get him out of the truck, and the poor Fed-Ex guy is stuck in the middle of all this, no idea what is going on.

Yes breeding without a purpose rarely does anyone any good. I keep telling my fiance this and he is never convinced.

My mother's dog once snatched a baguette off the counter in front of my sister who then grabbed it from her mouth and started smacking the dog with it and chased the little brat out the door.
Dog has never taken anything from a counter since that incident 4 years ago.

I've got a black lab mutt. She is a great dog. You can spend ridiculous amount of money on your "purebred" if you want, I'll take my free mutt and brag about it.

In don't understand what is wrong with a mutt. They make the best dogs. I just don't get the silliness of paying a fortune for one and calling it anything but a mutt

Two are in the ground were brother-sister Buddy was 13 when we had to have him put down. Baily lived 14 years and died in her sleep. By far the greatest dogs we have ever had and that is including many pure bred labs. It was like loosing family. I still got the last one he came later than the other two. He's 8 and is having knee problems. He came from a card board box with a sign that said free puppies. We had DNA testing done on him to find out just what he was. Black Lab, Irish Setter, Rohdesian Ridgeback, German sherpard were the test results. We didn't pay a dime for them, but would not have taken a million for any of them.

I always thought mutts were the best dogs.
Plus, fresh genetics are always good. A lot of those "purebreds" have really weird problems.. hips falling apart, bulging eyes, heart issues.
Kind of like European royalty back in the day. lol
I know what you mean though. Those shysters are mixing a couple of fancy dogs and giving it a cute name only to charge $500 for it. I guess if people will pay it...
