Have a few questions regarding my new pup and how you all handle new pups what puppy food do you use? Especially if it is a medium sized breed how do you get rid of fleas on puppies and even adult dogs? how long do you use puppy food for? what do you use to worm young pups and even adult dogs? I have my own ways of doing all this but I am always looking for other ways to do all of the above thanks for your input

I've always used purina puppy chow free choice for ages supplmented with milk replacer and wet puppy food 2 times a day. Topical flea treatments will always have the age reccomedations on the labels. As long as you follow the instructions you will be fine. Anything with fipronil is generic Frontline and no, there is no difference between the chemicals. Your puppy will need the 5-1 vaccine for dogs which can be purchased at tractor supply. Adminster as a subcutaneous injection www.diamondbackdrugs.com/subcutaneous-injections-for-dogs-and-cats/I have always done the 8wk 12wk 16wk 1 year schedule. You must go to the vet to get rabies done. This is the only vaccine by law that a dog must have and given by a vet. For worming, buy the safeguard wormer at feed store for dogs called panacur. This kills a 4 parasites at once. Dosage will be on drug box. Worm pups every 4,6 and 8 wks and then 12 wk 16wk 6month 1yr and then yearly after that. I start heartworm medication at 16wks. I make my own solution with diluted cattle injectable Ivomec as opposed to paying through the nose for the pills which my dogs never eat. I can tell you how to make it if you are interested. Hope this helps.

^^^^^^This^^^^^^^
The only thing different is the heartworm stuff (I'd be interested in learning how to do it) and I've been feeding Purina Pro Plan since 1996 or so. If I was going to breed a female, I'd worm her before being bred and again around day 30. The once that I missed, I also missed the 4 & 6 week worming schedule (well the ex wife missed the schedule as I wasn't home). When I found out I wormed the pups and had someone show up unexpectedly to look at the pups. It didn't go so well when a worm crawled out of a pups mouth.....

Purina Pro Plan is the only thing we have ever fed our dogs. Here's a hint. Bleep your weight symbols on the bags. Purines has a rewards program.
