I have a friend who had a savage blow up. I know him pretty well and based on his dedication to shooting and the outdoors, I would put him in the same class as a couple of the die hard smokeless guys here. He gave me a lot of recommendations when I got mine and directed me to resources to back up what he was giving me so that I could check it out if I wanted and also varify the safety of what I was doing.
With that said though, he has no idea why his blew up. It was obviously the last of multiple shots at the range and all the powder he had with him was weighed before hand and placed in the same viles I used to use. Due to the size of the viles, an unsafe amount of powder can not be put into it. There is no room to put the cap on.
Being friends with a Savage rep at the time who he had gotten a couple of the guns from in the past, he dealt directly with the company after the accident. There were several questions that were asked that would lead one to believe there are some things that Savage knows about the failures that they tend not to acknowledge. Either way, they settled it without question and without doing much investigation.
I don't believe anyone can say with 100% certainty that ALL failures are human error unless 100% of the people involved admit to doing something they shouldn't have and that has not been the case.
