I have a buddy who has been out deer hunting one or two times in his life and he also has a 15 year old son who has only been out a couple times. So I offered to take them to a spot in Monroe county to try their hand at a doe.
The son has a 20 gauge with slugs and my buddy is using my 358 hoosier. I'm with my buddy's son in a blind and my buddy is sitting in a stand I put up last year. I separated them in hopes that they both would have an opportunity on one and that I could also try to teach the son some stuff along the way.
Around 9am we hear a couple footsteps coming our way from the bottom of the hill. We let them get about 30 yards before the boy put the hammer on one. About 5 minutes later I hear my hoosier ring out. My buddy put down a doe too. In total we saw 15 doe. It was a great morning and they were super thankful the entire experience.
I came home and told my wife that it was as much fun watching my buddy's son take one down as it would be for me to get one. I just can't wait to watch my boy put the hammer down on one someday.
So the gutting of the deer was kind of comical and fun to watch. They have both seen YouTube videos of it, but you really don't know what you are doing until you get your hands into it. I guided them along as best as I could, but I didn't want to take over. In the end, it looked as if a veteran hunter cleaned them up. It just took about an hour per deer. Lol. Not really, but probably close. My buddy looked at me at one point and said the guy on YouTube did it in 5 minutes. I said you will get there!
God has blessed me with great friends and I love sharing hunting time with them. We are excited about turkey season in a couple months!!!
