Yeah, only have this one tent, it's a Eureka copper canyon. Bought it for a couple of campouts last summer, that never transpired because of the huge amount of rain we had in Aug./Sept. My son helped me set it up, and getting it seam sealed was as far as we got. Gonna try to put it to good use, this summer. It will comfortably hold two, with cots and gear. Plus, this ole geezer can stand up in it! maddog

How do you prep the tails to send in? Would the tails be gathered in one place before sent in?

Dave, too soon to tell. Basically, cut them off, after you're done skinning. Leave the tail bone in, straighten the tail, and freeze it. as it gets closer to next season, we'll figure out who to send them to, and get the money to Woody.

I would like to see someone kill a squirrel with a walnut and a slingshot.

I have vacation time , but I would need to give a min. of a two ( 2 ) week notice at work . But it does sound like it would be a blast and cast of a time . I or We ( my sister and brother ) have 3 tents a camp stove 2 cast iron skillets . I just Mapquested Owen county IN. and the drive one way would be a little over 3 HOURS one way . but I don't have a address for the places that were mentioned , so the drive might be a little longer .

I would like to see someone kill a squirrel with a walnut and a slingshot. Believe it or not, it's illegal to use a slingshot for hunting Squirrels in Kentucky.

I am still trying to figure out why one can't use a Centerfire rifle like my .25-20 or .22 Hornet (light loaded) rifles for hunting Squirrels. STUPID!!

I have never been in one of the contests but that sounds like a great idea to me.I hunt and camp most of the time anyway and that sounds like a good way to make some new friends.

Well, if that's the case, we'll probably have it the weekend of Sept. 11+12, or the next weekend of the 17+18. As soon as the weather straightens up, and I [we] can go look at the site and talk to the property mgr., we'll pick a date. Should be able to do that before Memorial Day, which will give everybody three months to make arrangements to attend the hunt.

Got some info back from the state on the Owen Putnam state forest. The rattlesnake campground is the most remote of the three campgrounds. it also has a fishing pond within walking distance of the campground. The campground is not listed in a safety zone, which means you should be able to walk out of camp a short distance and go hunting. Hopefully, I'll be able to get down there and check all this out, by May. Any of you boys been to this particular campground?

Called the forestry office at Owen Putnam SF, yesterday. Got most of my questions answered. You will be able to walk out of camp, a short way, and go hunting. Guns unloaded while in camp. State ok'd wood for burning, for the most part. The pond is within walking distance of the camp. They do stock it with catfish, each year. He indicated there shouldn't be too many campers there, since it's after labor Day, and before archery deer season. Sometime in the next 3-4 wks. [depending on the weather], I'll be making a trip down to check it out. Will take pics, and post them, when I get back.

Just to let you boys know, I haven't forgot, and am going to try to get down to the Owen/Putnam SF, in the next 2 wks. I still have some planting season things to get done, here at home. When I go, it will be during the week, so I can go to the SF office. I will take some pics of the campground and hopefully the pond. Anybody that wants to meet me in Cloverdale, or ride down with me for the scouting trip, from up north, let me know. Boys, it's less than 3 mos. til limb chicken season, so fire up! maddog

However I don't hunt the Spring Season, just too many ticks that time of the year + no Mast is ripe except Mulberries.

I live within a 15-20 minute drive of Morgan-Monroe and Owen-Putnam. If this happens I would probably make it out for a day.
