Hello all, Just wondering if anyone out there has had any luck catching any crappie yet? I've tried a coupe of times but with no success. Also what seems to be the "killer bait" now that has brought you absolute success? I've got a lake and I believe it is on the threshold of being overrun with crappie. Thanks and god bless.

I've been catching quite a few in the past week..this weekend should be great. I've noticed they are holding tight to cover where I'm fishing them...like right in the trees...not next to them. I couldn't get them to bite casting right next to cover..but if I moved closer and jigged right into the tree tops they are biting just about anything. Mostly males though...the females appear to be in deeper water until temps come up....also, I'd be happy to assist with the crappie overpopulation problem;D Trophy Paradise Habitat Consulting "Trophies are built from the ground up" m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=852914431431752

I went ahead and moved this to it's natural spot; if you don't get any activity let me know and we can move it back to Campfire and see if it makes a difference.

It's prime time right now to catch them spawning in shallow water. They will be in heavy cover as noted above. Day in, day out it's hard to beat minnows for crappie.

My dad caught 14 nice ones last Friday in a couple hours. He was using the old faithful, live minnow and a slip bobber on a gold hook.

Live minnows is all I've ever had luck with.

I caught 22 nice crappie yesterday. They are just in the verge of spawning now. The males were prepping the beds. Trophy Paradise Habitat Consulting "Trophies are built from the ground up" m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=852914431431752

I usually have the best luck crappie fishing with a black or clear-ish purple powerbait!

1-48oz jig with 2" tupe will catch more bluegill and crappie then minnows any day of the week. haven't used live bait in years and will catch just as many fish as the next guy and I don't keep any thing under 10"

WOW only a 2" tube on a 3 lb. jig. Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

I crappie fish a lot. I like to long ling troll but also cast some during the spawn. I hardly ever use minnows. I use a lot 1/6 oz jigs and road runner type jigs with bobby garland baby shad and lake fork baby shad. Always use crappie nibbles also. I did really well down in TN the last week in March. Going to Mississinewa tomorrow.
