Growing old....woody must be toughest roughest dude out there!
Had back surgery Thursday to fix a herniated disc...doc said I could go back to work in 2 days or up to 3 weeks...I am thinking more like 3 weeks at this point. Dang it is depressing to be bed ridden. Have a few good hours here and there followed by worse pain than I was in pre surgery.
Anyone been through a microdiscectomy to offer encouragement? Going to call surgeon first thing tomorrow as well.

Best I can tell you after two back surgeries going on three in a couple of weeks is, quit crying. Let's go catch some cats.
Seriously though you shouldn't be in that much pain. The surgery should have taken the pressure off and should have felt reliefs after the anesthesia wore off. I'd call the surgeon asap or head to the er. Just my opinion.

Sometimes, back surgery can make things worse, which depends on what Doctor performed the operation. My late Cousin Bill, who lived in Bellingham, Washington State had the same back issue and had to have three surgeries, as the first one made things worse.

Let us know what the doc says.
Pain is relative, and I can't handle much.

Duff, both my wife and I have been there. It really depends on several factors in our experience. The nature and the invasiveness of the surgery, your physical condition prior to surgery, your age (older usually mean slower recovery) and your doctor. If you are in worse pain post op get help immediately. First day or two are rough but longer indicates a follow up. Hope you get better soon

Thanks guys. It wasn't blood clots (ultrasound on both legs). It isn't another bulged/herniated disc (MRI).
It is getting a better so maybe I am just recovering slower than I had hoped. Just ready to get good enough to fish and work in the garden!

Ain't missing much. Ran and ran to get away from the 3-5 pound channels but never could get away from them. Had one good one on. Obviously a blue the way it hit. Couldn't turn it and popped the hook. Never did see it. Get better. Got a freezer full of skips.

I had that surgery on a Thursday about six years ago. I went back to work Monday morning but couldn't make it all day. Went back full time on Tuesday. I've been pain free until the last couple of months. I think I may have herniation again. I'm in physical therapy right now.

I also fell down the stairs the evening when I got home. I thought for sure I damaged my back more.

For all you guys that have back pain or nerve damage, look into a spinal cord stimulator. It's a you know what to get the insurance company to pay for it but if you can it is a life saver. Had a herniated disc. When it herniated it pinched my nerve off permanently damaging it. Dealt with that pain for a long time. Got the spinal cord stimulator put in and it's a life saver. Get the permanent one put in on Thursday. Let me tell you the surgery is more painful than any pain you will ever experience but the after effect is miraculous.

Good luck 10point. My left side is doing real good but right side is still painful. Worse than it was pre surgery but I think part of it was due to inflamation caused by surgery and I stopped taking 800 mg ibupropin 4 times a day too...
Still get a numb left foot though, hope that is nerve just healing. Hard to tell.

I work with a guy that had back surgery last year. After the surgery he wasn't getting any better. Turned out the back issue was masking a hip issue, so he had to go back under the knife again.
He was doing a lot better but was still tired a lot. Turns out he also has a blockage in the "Widowmaker" artery, but they don't want to operate for some reason. It's been a sh!tty year for him.
Hang in there Duff - it'll get better.
