Does anyone here think that removing the Battle Flag from the Confederate Soldiers Memorial in SC will: 1) Be all that the leftists want? IOW - They will be satisfied? 2) will stop racism in it's tracks? No more racist hatred or killings? 3) will bring back those that were killed? IMO - The left loves this stuff so that they can keep on pushing their agendas. A couple congressmen are already starting to push their gun control agenda AGAIN. I wouldn't be surprised if they secretly start some of it. It's been done before. Yes, it has occurred before. Remember your History Class, in High School or College, when we studied WW-2 and Hitler's rise to power.

I have a great deal of southern heritage. I have always felt drawn to that part of my personal history. Those who know me best know that Southern Appalachia flows in my veins. The South, like every region of this country, has plenty to be rightly proud of, and like every other region, it has plenty to regret. The same can be said of my own family history.
As a young and naive kid, I sometimes liked to show my heritage by wearing a hat that had a confederate flag on it. I can honestly say that hat, to me, had NOTHING to do with history of slavery. In my mind, I was not promoting racism in any way. Then something happened that made me realize that it didn't really matter what I thought the hat symbolized.
I wore that hat to an early morning class in college my freshman year. The professor, a black man, approached me and asked what was the meaning of my hat. I made some silly joke about how it meant that I hadn't showered that morning and it meant my hair was a mess. He just calmly said that to him, and people like him, it meant something very different.
That may have been the most important lesson I learned in any college class. I threw that formally beloved hat away that day and have not supported that symbol since.
Sometimes, it doesn't matter what I think. Sometimes, I am just wrong.

I just don't know what I think about this. It seems that I have trouble thinking very deeply about anything these days.
I like the flag and it sure doesn't have anything to do with slaves either. I like the British flag too, and I'm sure some colonist wouldn't like it either. No slaves around either.
Where does it all end? I think it's great that one makes a personal decision to not offend another person, but there's not much that wouldn't offend someone somewhere.
We do have a right to free expression, but no right to not be offended.
If it continues, we'll all have to wear uniforms or the same clothes on the same days. Certain words will be illegal, and a specific response will me mandated for each question.
Maybe showing underwear with pants hanging down to knees offends someone, but good luck getting any support with that cause.
I think it's my problem if I'm offended by seeing the underwear. I don't think they should stop dressing the way they want. They have no private parts showing.
Maybe it is time to take that flag down, but maybe it's time for people to just be free and equal. I'm thinking there are some, many who really don't want fair or equal, but want to do anything without any consequence.

If one man's feelings about a flag hat was enough to make you throw it away and change your life long feeling gs and heritage, why do still own guns? Why do you eat pork? Ever drink alcohol? I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm just trying to make a point. Honestly, should we tear down every reminder of the Confederacy and rip it and slavery from the history books? Showing respect to others is fantastic, but others should do the same.

One man? Really?
It didn't change one bit of my heritage. I am part of a family that once owned hundreds of slaves. I have the records to show it.
I am still intensely proud of my family and my southern heritage. But I am not proud of all of it. At 18, I learned a very valuable lesson from a man whose ancestors my family could have once held in bondage. That was almost 30 years ago and I still haven't forgotten it. Despite what you or I think of the meaning of that flag, to millions of Americans it is a symbol of oppression and I am extremely uncomfortable with the idea of waving that in their faces.
You can fight the good fight and stand behind that flag all you want. It won't really offend me. But I was willing to give that fight up a long time ago. I saw no benefit in going down that road. None whatsoever.

I thought the question was interesting. The nationwide passion about that flag likely isn't a drop in the bucket compared to the passion about guns.

Yes, really.
At what point do we stop changing to keep from offending others.
Better yet, who is right when one group offends another? Who has to change?
At what point do people start to take responsibility for themselves again and stop blaming others for their situation, their actions, or their feelings?

I really think this comes down to individual freedom. If you want to fly the Stars and Bars in your front yard, you should have the right to do so. But I really think it is a NO BRAINER to stop flying it on a state capital.

It hasn't been on the State Capitol Building for several years. The flag in South Carolina that is currently in question is over a Civil War Memorial.

I'm going to try to keep this clean for Woody,
So the stars and bars offends someone. So what. How about the nazi swastikas. Not my problem. How about the gay rainbow flag, black panther flag, white Aryan resistance. Get over it. I agree some view each and everyone as racist or offensive. My and your freedom of speech to fly them. What was the civil war fought over. States rights, granted states rights to keep slaves. What is the federal government doing about the flag now. Putting there nose where it don't belong. States don't want it. Let the state vote then.
Now where I have to be careful. I personally don't care if I offend anyone but will walk the line out of respect.
There are two groups of each race in the U.S.
First category will be any derogatory name of any race you can imagine whether color or sexual orientation.
Now the second category will be black, white,Mexican,Asian, gay,Italian,Indian, whatever...
If you can't differentiate between the two you are part of the problem. If you insist on calling yourself _________ American, you are part of the problem. You are an American. I have absolutely no problem you being black, white, gay,Muslim. Don't ask for special treatment. If you do you are part of the problem. I open the borders on the U.S. willingly to all and I'm willing to make it easier. Just do it legally and follow our laws.
The flag is a flag. Yes, granted it's a white flag. So what about the black panther flag? How about if I flew a Isis flag? How about a rainbow flag? How many find those offensive. Yes many people died during slavery. How many years ago. How many died in the concentration camps in ONE day. Get over in. No one living was a slave. All this is doing is driving a wedge farther and farther between Americans and it will not end well. There was one civil war and I guarantee you there will be another. Unfortunately sooner than later.
Woody I know I'm toeing the line here. Feel free to delete if you feel nesecarry. I tend to speak my mind probably more than I should and more honestly than is needed.

I see emotion, but nothing that needs to be deleted in my opinion. This is an emotional subject, but deer hunting is an emotional subject too. I like to see people express their opinion. I think there is a spreading feeling that we are or have gone too far with the politically correct agenda. People are getting fed up with it ...from what I can interpret. There's is a feeling that the rules are that we can't offend and don't have a right to feel offended, but one might have to be in the majority race to feel this way. Absolutely, we are Americans! I'm a mutt breed American, but most of us are. Truly, I feel a group of people want to do whatever they want without any consequences and also want a free ride because somehow we owe them. Hey, if anyone owes them, it's the people who sold them.

To see the genuine hurt response in his expression was very powerful, and would have pierced my heart. I don't want to intentionally hurt someone ...anyone. I just hate that it's offensive. I like the flag.

Pandering to what "needs" to be said to save likes and follows and more white shame.
