Went out Saturday and re-hung my stand and cleared the path to it and the deer trail passed it out. Lots of briars that grow back over the deer path every year. I take a machete and clear out the briars from either side of the path to encourage the deer to use that path.
This has to be the earliest I have ever went in to get that spot ready. Lots of tracks along the beanfield just out from the stand.
Anybody else getting extra wound up? Guess I might be because I missed last archery season because of the motorcycle accident.

I have done zippo, but JDUB did remind me yesterday we have a stand to move. It's been wet and there is plenty of time - however I think he is getting ready for it to start too. We went out after 'yotes this last weekend and saw buck's in close while we were out; figure that's what got him going.

Our one property is entirely ready to go, save one stand. Obviously every stand gets another look right at the first week of september, strap check, lane check and exit/entrance path checked.
Other property is setting at about 50% done stand wise.

The stands are up and ready on my place. One is permanent. Kinda like a guard tower. Trying a different strategy this year. Other than thorns. I haven't cut a thing in my woods. It is very deer friendly with my back field in alfalfa mix and middle field in beans. Walked my alfalfa field today and, as I suspected, it has a bad case of base rot from the 8-10" of June rain. It is good and bad news. The deer love it back there but no round bales for me. I'll take the deer holding up here over round bales. Got a nice buck on my game cam. Big stocky one. Lots of velvet. This place is like a deer nursery. Moms and singles and one with twins. This is Hamilton county which is a poor location for deer. I am trying to change that on my place. Might be working as the buck in my avatar came from here. Am I extra wound up? Oh yeah!! My lease property is a different story. Need to set up stands and clear shooting alleys but I may just set up on the perimeter of fields and try my luck.

Got my cameras out Thursday. Walked through a ton of standing water and mud. Just way too nasty yet to try and move my stands. I have three that have got to be relocated.
I bumped some deer as snuck through the woods to hang my first camera. So I figured I take to the corn field to cover the other 1/2 mile for camera 2. Just knew that no deer would be hanging in the corn on a hot, sunny, windless day. Wrong! Jumped a decent buck about 5 rows ahead of me. Really looking forward to this archery season.
