I was reading the regs tonight for youth hunting and it didn't say anything about the youth completing the hunters education course prior to hunting. However when I went to buy a license online for him, it required me enter his hunters Ed number. He hasn't completed the course. So what am I missing here? Does my son need to take the course prior to hunting with me? I also noticed a deer license was not available, just the residential hunting license.
Can someone shed some light on this for me.
Thanks. Mike

Yes he needs to take the course and pass it to get his hunter I.d. number he can get the apprentice license but there are special rules that follow that license But simply put yes he needs to take it

And I think the regs are in the general license part but don't have a book in front of me

He needs an apprentice youth license; as has been stated he will need HE once the apprentice time runs out.

Thanks guys. That all makes sense. So it looks like he can get the apprentice license 3 times before he has to take the class.
Thanks again! Mike

Thanks guys. That all makes sense. So it looks like he can get the apprentice license 3 times before he has to take the class. Thanks again! Mike Buy them at home online! You can print as many copies as you could even need. Look under COMBO licenses for the Youth Consolidated Apprentice License. He can get 3 (3 years) before a class is required. Get him in a class before it us required though so you aren't rushing that last year to find one.

You can take the class on line. I did and my grandson is finishing his class. On 9 of 9 sections. He passed the previous 8 lessons. On line is easy to do. You can take one lesson at a time and it saves your progress or, as I did, took all nine lessons on a Saturday. You are not charged the fee, $19.50, until you complete the course. Unlimited attempts at the final test which is 75 multiple choice questions. Just have him take the course and get it done. Lots of good information.
