I have the ruger air hawk. pretty good gun and squirrel head accurate at 30. If I was to buy a new one I think Id go with 22 instead of 177 though, really got to pick your shots.

I use a 20ga, because of all the leaves and twigs in the way. One shot, one kill wasn't happening with my air riffle, but it is fun, and will drop them if you don't hit anything else. For me the air riffle is better when the leaves are down, and by this time, my mind is elsewhere.

The August edition of Predator Xtreme was full of stuff about air rifles. First time I paid any attention to them. They are pretty amazing. That is what I learned today..........

I always wanted to do it, but I'm afraid in the dark woods ...really. I've seen too many monster show. LOL I guess they hunt mountain lion the same way, but in the day ...I think. I'd really like to do this, but pricey and I'd have to use a snowmobile.

Hard to find anywhere to hunt them these days. but one day wen the pigs have ruined the deer hunting and the armadillos have ruined the turky it won't be hard to use dogs to hunt either

I just bought a ruger impact in 22 for 140$. The wife was interested in squirrel hunting and I thought it would be a good starter gun for her to plink with. Does anyone have experience with this model? Also can any good scope work on one of these air guns?

Does anyone have experience with this model? Also can any good scope work on one of these air guns? I did buy a pricey Gamo air rifle. I do like it, and it's fun especially for the squirrels in my yards. However, the scope that came with it is unacceptable for me. It's on tight, but one click and I can be 2" off in the other direction. It's wouldn't cost much to get a decent scope for it.

My airrifle came with one but I may toss the one from the 10/22 on it to see how it performs for future reference

When using a Gamo, Ruger, or any other break-barrel spring gun, you must get a "spring rated" scope. Pyramid Air is a good source.
Constant change in point of impact is most likely NOT the scope, but rather a crappy barrel or non-compatible pellet. I just mounted a new scope on my friend's Gamo and could not get any consistency whatsoever. I told him to try some different ammo and, if that did not work, throw it away. He called my advise B.S. and proceeded to miss everything that he shot at. He finally admitted to me that he bought a few different brands of ammo and had it shooting 1/2 groups at 30 yards with one particular brand.
I realize that everyone has a budget, but I cannot stress enough the fact that you really do get what you pay for when it comes to air guns. Most people would not pay $150 for a bow and expect much. Air rifles are NO different. I have a few very nice air guns. My .25 PCP will shoot one-inch groups at 100 yards with no problem. I have one spring gun, which is a Beeman R9 in .20 caliber. It will shoot one-hole groups at 30 yards if I do my part. By the way, the Beemans that are sold at Wal-Mart, Bass Pro, etc. are NOT the real thing. They are Chinese made junk. Get a Beeman R series or HW.
