How do you all give a two week notice to your employer?
I have traditionally done so in person, I have always felt that is more personal than an email or letter. I know a lot of guys just send an email. I guess if the company treated me poorly, I would simply write an email, but if not, in person.
I recently read a new contract that I'm about to sign, that states I must give a written notice. Documentation is good, I get that.

It has been 14 years for me. The company is small and the owner is a good man. I have no problem calling him a friend. I hope he sees me as the same. I'm just at a point where I need to move on...plus my contract is being moved to DC.
I think if the company was larger, I probably be less likely to go in and chat with them, so therefor an email would be sufficient.

Weather they were good to you or not, you should do it in the same way. For legal reason, you need to write it somehow, but sure go talk with them. Where I worked, often they would pay the person for 2 weeks and let them leave, but this was for the company's benefit for asset protection. They also will not comment on the persons performance as they do not want to get sued. They will just give the dates of employment. Switch places and do what you would want done to you. I already think you're going to do it. Hey, you're not moving to DC? ?

I would say if you feel you have a personal relationship with the boss when you turn your written notice in offer to discuss it with them if they so wish.

Dad always said don't burn bridges. So, a polite written notice handed to him in person, and a thank you for the opportunity to have worked for him?
I am the HR manager where I work and I do the exit interviews. I should write a book with the stuff people say - the things you hear about that went on right under the bosses noses! Wow!
