I want to say first off that I hope the season gets off the the right start. Now I have been thinking about talking with hunters looking at buying land for hunting, my idea was to help anyone find land around me with the hope of signing a 5 year farm lease to farm the property. I'm trying to think outside the box in finding land to farm, I was thinking about planting alfalfa for ease of access. My question is would any of you consider this as an option to secure hunting ground.

So if I am looking for land and you tell me about a piece and I buy it you want 5 year lease to farm the property. Are you going to pay cash rent? Are you going to hunt it to?

When you lease or rent hunting ground, there is no guarantee it will be around even after five years. Just my $.02 worth of advice.

Yea, sounds a little funny how it is written...but I think he intended to say that 1. Do you live around practicalsportsman's area? 2. Are you looking to buy land for hunting only? 3. Would you want to set up a 5 year lease with practialsportsman to farm the property to off set the cost of the land?
Maybe he can bring in some of the magic mud on his tractor tires...never know.

My question is would any of you consider this as an option to secure hunting ground. I have friends looking at buying land just for the oppo9rtunity of having great land available to hunt only on. What part of Indiana are you speaking of? Most would want mostly wooded and thicket land for the hunting as far as buying. No use buying 100 acres to hunt when 90 acres is crop land. A friend of mine has asked me to find him about 100K cash price for some land in Indiana. Won't live t there and probably only be on the land during deer season. Big investment for spending a month a year on the property. I think your question is a good one and there are people interested but it depends on the quality and quantity of actual hunting ground along with the price.

If my son (Danf) was on here more, I'm sure he would be more than happy to fill in some of the history of the "magic mud"....that almost goes back to before my days on here I think.

A friend leased ground in Texas with some other guys. 300 acres of mesquite/XXXXXly pear scrub. There's electric but no water. They have pop-up trailers and some pull behind RV trailers that are parked there. The land owner leased the ground to a cattleman, and he put 300 head of cattle on it.
One guys pop-up camper was completely destroyed by the cattle rubbing up against it, and the cattle have run rampant. Cow patties all around the trailers, etc. They're perturbed to say the least, but there was nothing in writing about cows. When asked, the landowner said "No, there's not enough food for cows, I won't put any on here."
The guy with the cattle that leased it comes every day to feed them - if you are hunting there, you have them following you around like puppies, waiting to be fed. Needless to say, deer hunting there isn't what it used to be......
