I decided over last winter that I wanted to make a small game rifle with a little more pop that a 22LR and one that was easily reloadable (I've pretty much soured on Rimfire price gouging).
So that said, I acquired a few bits and pieces around the hunting community and now I have a scoped 9mm Luger single-shot carbine that originally was a Model 94B Stevens 12 gauge.
I did it by purchasing an 12" rifled insert for the barrel that slides in to the barrel and I then epoxied the insert into the barrel to insure it would stay in place. I then filed out a slot at the bottom of the barrel insert to allow the original shotgun extractor to continue to function when I open and closed the barrel. Currently the empty shells slide out on their own after firing when I invert the barrel but if I get a sticky case, I have a small extraction tool that is press fit into the comb of the stock that I can remove and use to hit the lip of the case and extract it that way.
after I got the firing and extraction process down, I decided to make the new rifle a bit handier and I cut the 30" shotgun barrel down to 16.25" and added a scope rail to the top of the barrel to provide me with sights for hitting the target. Currently I put one of BSA's 3-9 scopes on it just to get it sighted in but it may sport a Red Dot on it for actual hunting use since the distances I expect to use it at won't require strong magnification (<50 yards). Currently it doesn't have a sling but it is so light that a hand carry for the hunt will be probably the easiest way to carry it anyways.
Anyone else go this route in the past? my investment is 2/3rds the cost of one of those hipoint carbines and its got a bit of old-time approach to it currently anyways.
