Surely we will surpass last year's 120,000. This coming weekend is going to be perfect conditions again. Mild weather is gonna keep bringing groves of deer down....not to mention it seems "some areas" the online/phone check in seems to be being abused quite frequently. All hunters keep your eyes and ears peeled for people harvesting over the buck limit or overall limit...the DNR officers cannot do it all.

Why would someone shoot two bucks And then check them both in??? You can't be serious!!

Just last year officer Whitehead and Vander Molen up here in my district caught a gentleman who had "tagged" the 3 bucks he'd shot already under his name and his wife and one son.....he was currently trying to check in a 4th shot buck under another son.....trust me greg, shocking but these idiots are idiots for a reason bahaha!

Woody Williams
You got that right, whether the numbers are up, down or the same...the DNR is going to be "blamed" for whatever "it" turns out to be.
BTW, FWIW (and I realize this is anecdotal @ best), during the first 2 and 1/2 days of hunting on 4 pieces of ground in Washington and Harrison Counties the 5 hunters in our group have seen over 60 deer, two bucks have been killed and I should have killed a third if I hadn't had my thumb up my rear early Saturday morning.
And no we don't have access to hundreds of acres. The largest piece is 130 acres and 120 of it is a wide open crop field, and the other three pieces are 27, 10 and 12 acres and all of the surrounding land is hunted hard and most of it is hunted hard by the Amish and Mennonites.

While I know that happens, it's fairly difficult to prove. What do you want, a family limit? The way things are my family can hunt and legally harvest 16 deer: 4 bucks and 12 antlerless. Not that we would. Add in neighbor and his nephew and grandson number goes up to 28 (12+16). I would say not the problem is people checking in under family (most people follow the laws) vs there is too high limits on does. We protect the wrong sex, the bucks for its decorative use instead of the mothers of the next generation. Thanks 1 buck rule. While I think the deer numbers are good now, I think we are not looking to the future, habitat is declining and Hunter numbers seem to be increasing, locally anyways.
