I look forward to my time up here every year. This year was no different. I got in the stand at 6:30. My buddy saw a doe following a buck around. I saw nothing. We headed out for lunch. Got back in the stands by 1:30. By 2, we had a 4 pt come in. By 2:30 I had a monster Michigan buck come within 20 yards. I shot. Hit him high. The arrow stuck in him and he ran. He ran about 50 yards then stopped. He got a little wobbly then continued on. I lost him after a few minutes. The trees are think in this woods.
We gave him an hour prior getting down. Immediately we find zero blood. Zero!!! We searched for 2 hours and found nothing. I have tried like crazy to find a deer tracker with a dog. I can't seem to get anyone to come look. So my buddies and I will be looking again at first light.
So...more to follow.

Good luck. Tough with no exit. Maybe you didnt actually find the blood trail yet. Has happened to us many times. Hopefully your broadhead is chopping away as he moves.

It shows you have passion for your sport and respect for the animal. Rock on! Never ever fire a rifle and obviously a bow when you are shaking, IT IS GOING TO GO WRONG, period. Go try it on a target. Seen it hundreds of times taking stalkers out, i often have to stop them and calm them down It shows you are excited and out of control, thats what it shows. I have as much respect for anything i kill as the next man but i am in control of my thoughts until the job is done, and if that means calmly walking up and knifeing a wounded deer then so be it. Some of you are going to disagree with me , but that is the way it is, buck fever makes for bad shots and bad decisions. Good luck finding your animal Billy

I agree it is not good for the shot of course, but I bet if a lot of guys didn't get pumped up they (me) would quit hunting.

Greetings I fully understand your thinking and i agree with it, but one can still be passionate pumped up and love it and not shoot when shaking, just got to stop, deepbreath and take stock of what is happening, believe me the shakes will stop and all will be well in the valley.
Well all i can tell you deadeer, it is the best job in the world, i have never regretted it and never will. And i still very much enjoy private hunting in my own patch after almost forty years of it. Please dont take offence. Regards Billy

We are all good Billy. No offense taken. Just different outlooks. I probably would love the job. Of course I said that about being a mechanic, and now hate changing my own oil. Lol.

Update. We found a little blood. My buddy is waiting for the deer tracker to call him.
I'm heading ha k to Indy. My wife called me last night and said the dog is not in the house or the yard. He has a dog door and invisible fence. He didn't come home last night. This dog has never left the yard before. So now to get home and try to find my sons best friend. Ugh!!!!.

Update. My buddy met with the dog tracker this morning. The dog got on the scent right away, tracked it right to a gut pile. We are not sure if someone else shot it or just found it. Either way, he is someone else's. I hope that person was able to recover it in time to use the meat. What a whirlwind of emotions the last few days. We have been putting up posters and visiting websites and shelters the last two days to find the dog. Ugh. This just stinks!!!

That really sucks. From one high to two lows. Hope you find the pup! Deer must have been OK for somebody else to snatch it. As said, hopefully it didn't go to waste. Good luck.
