That... And sometimes some one has to DIE before anyone will believe there is a safety problem ...... Tombstone science!! I bet if someone would check the records, my gut feeling is that there are more people killed and injured from tree stand falls than from firearms. If that is the case, then why isn't there a big push to make them illegal to use? Probably the same reason there's NO push to mandate motorcycle helmets

No .... Just post up the HPR data..... The subject of the thread!!!! At this point in time in Indiana there are high velocity rifle rounds that are used in both pistols and long guns during deer season. To my knowledge there has never been an accident involving either.

Other words no "Near misses".... I personally believe the amount folks using rifles and HPR now is very small compared to what may be if HPR are allowed for anyone that can afford them or already has them....only time will tell!!

One consolation for the anti-HPR crowd is that Handi-Rifles are no longer made, so one cheap source of HPR's has been eliminated.
MSRP on a Rossi single-shot .243 is $306.82, and a Savage Axis is $368.

I have not heard of any or seen any news accounts of any. I agree the number in use will increase, but we are talking about current rifles in use and the dangers they have created. No doubt at some point in the future if all rifles become legal someone will get shot with one. I just don't think it will be a rifle problem as much as user error.

Never once said I had that data.....let's not make things up as we go!!! There is a lot of safety in this world that never happens untill some dies from a accident .... That was my point!! We had to kill the Greates NASCAR race car driver in the sport to Make it safer!!!! RIP Dale.... Hope that's not the case in HPR in Indiana......

They'd better start with slug guns, as they've sure maimed and killed a lot of people over the years.

Rules passed by the NRC are found in Indiana Administrative Code (312 IAC). Laws created by the legislature are codified in the Indiana Code (IC 14) which is over 1100 pages. Someone not busy can go search for the PCR's. I guessing they only appear in the 312 IAC.

312 IAC 9-3-3 Equipment for deer hunting
The current bill states "SECTION 1. IC 14-22-2-8 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE UPON PASSAGE]"

I never uses one till then. Wouldn't get in my sprinter again without one.

HNF won't allow HPRs, it is for state owned land only. I don't hunt there, but have always called it state ground. I guess it really is federal, correct? Through other questions i have had and with conversations with the HNF office, it is federal land but they follow state regulations.

Any document release of what they came up with? I've been refreshing the bill page all night, and it's still the March 1 version.

Got word last might from a reliable source that what has been agreed on is this.... The amendment that restricted HPR's to the southern half of the state has been changed to alowe HPR's to the entire state including private ground. The other change was that only certain specific calibers can be used, and they are 243, 300, 30-30, 30.06, 303.The provision that required people to hunt 10' off the ground was striken because of folks with disabilities.

Direct from Senate and House conference committee reports:
So, we're back to private land only, but it's state-wide.
No more 10ft rule.
No more purple paint.
10mm handguns allowed.
A wide variety of .300 rifles allowed, and a few specific calibers.
No FMJ's.
I think this is a fairly decent start to widening the rifle offerings in the state.

This is a great way to get our foot in the door. I would say that there will be some adjustments over time.
