Bought an Encore barrel from MGM in 358win, planning to trim the case to make the short neck 1.8" legal case length. Of course, after going this route, the hpr bill will pass for all of us. Lol. But anyway, I am a sucker for a new adventure. This gun wears a Boyds thumbhole stock set, and sees thru a 6x24x50 Weaver Classic Extreme 30mm scope. Scope is on just for building loads, a little big for this round. I resized some 308 brass, broke the barrel in on lower power loads while forming the brass, and picked out a bunch of different loads to try. Probably the worst group at 100yd was 4", and 6" at 200yd. The two best groups are in the pics. Not a bad start for the first couple groups fired thru the gun. I have something to work from now to fine tune. The other gun in the pic is a 7-08, next in line if full hpr inclusion happens. It is a tack driver also. Same scope but 4x16x50. That group is 4 shots, I couldn't bring myself to chance it with anymore. Well under 1" at 100yd,or moa. First shot was a well cleaned and cold bore. The white circle is 4". So group is about 2" at 200yd, or moa for 6 shots.

Nice looking rifle and looks like you have a good shooter to boot. If the CF rifles get approved you can just drop the extra trimming part of the process.

Exactly what HuntMeister said. The 358 Win is a deer killing cartridge. And so is its little sister the 7mm/08. I have killed deer with both and these cartridges give great performance. There is a 7mm/08 in my grand daughter's future if the HPR bill allows it.

Good shooting! The next question is do you hunt with a clean barrel or a dirty one?

Good shooting! The next question is do you hunt with a clean barrel or a dirty one? That's easy, an accurate one! Lol. Time will tell.

Nice groups, I can never get my encores to shoot that well. Congratulations I hear that often. I am the other way. I don't quit till it shoots great. I only had one rifle barrel that wouldn't shoot, a 22-250. Pulled my hair out for years, then sent it down the river. Also had one handgun barrel, a 454 Casull, that fought me. My Ruger Super Redhawk out shot it 10 to 1.

I shot my new 358 mgm this past weekend to sight it in. I had a terrible and aggravated time trying. Best I got it was 4 inch groups at 100. And all over the target at 200. But having OCD like I do. I'm loading up some more ammo and going at it again this week end. Hopefully I get it tighten up the groups.

Check out bellm TC, he's got some interesting information on T C rifles and why some shoot poorly.

Check out bellm TC, he's got some interesting information on T C rifles and why some shoot poorly. Seems like guys either love or hate Bellm's ideas. I tried the oversized hinge pins, and it made the locckup of my guns off. One gun shot a foot high and then was getting vertical stringing. Personally, I have got all my setups shooting good on my own. I have worked with over 25 barrels, and got all but the two mentioned to shoot at least 1 moa at 100yd.

That's impressive, I've tried 4 different barrels and never could get any of them consistent shooters.they would group great some times but never as a bolt gun. I do think there is a issue with the individual frames and lock up. My brother has one that shoots great all the time.I tried about everything I could think of. I just use it black powder and it's very consistent.
