Look at the turnout for the primary in this state. For a "Democratic" state, they sure didn't come out to vote! I thought we are a Republican state. Southern Indiana is Democrat but the central and northern parts are republican. I might have a little insight. My mother is a long time Democrat. Grew up in floyd county and was raised catholic. And this primary for the first time in her life she voted republican ballot. I can almost see her dad doing barrel rolls in his grave lol. I was shocked she did vote that way. I don't know who she voted for because there are curtains on the booth for a reason. Maybe this has happened a lot more to other people. Sorry for the long post and if I rambled.

I suspect you are right; the R's will turn out for this one more so than the last few. Still plenty of time between now and November though. in 2008 a lot of people probably thought the republicans had it in the bag and didn't even go vote I believe the same. Talking Heads like Dick Morris & John Sununu, plus several others had Republican voters convinced that Romney would win because Obama was doing a poor job as President. They said Obama didn't stand a chance to be re-elected. Many Republican voters stayed away from the voting booth while the Democrats voted in large numbers; giving Obama four more years of misery for this country.

I agree we are a strong Republican state. We did vote for Obama first term election...first democrat in a long time to win Indiana. I don't think the split is north or south but more tied to rural vs urban locations but could be wrong.

I agree the split is mostly rural/urban, however you have counties like Brown who don't fit in that mold. Think family history makes a difference as well.

A lot of voters just votefor a party and dont even know what the party is all about especially democrats. Democrats on a rural level are a completely different kind of democrat in general
