I am being interviewed for a job located in Mt Vernon. I have been all over Indiana and know about what to expect in each area. Execpt for that far south western county.
I currently sit 125 miles one way....not a friendly commute if given the opportunity.
So what do I expect down there? Good or bad

If i were you, i would look for housing in areas around Mt vernon, not in Mt vernon itself. West side of evansvilles, poseyville, wadesville, new harmony, etc

The best thing about Mt Vernon is that it's close to Illinois. Kidding of course, Posey County hunting is as good as across the Wabash.

One place you don't want to move to is in McCutchanville, an area north of Evansville. I lived there 35 years, before moving to Kentucky, and those people/neighbors didn't like anyone to hunt or shoot targets in that area. I had to drive up to Sugar Ridge's shooting range (70 mile round trip) in-order to shoot my rifles. Up in the Wadesville area the land is very flat and has very few trees, but good farm land.
