Any small engine mechanics out there who can give me an opinion on this: Im looking at a Swisher pro series 66 inch zero turn mower with 211 hours. Asking price is $2200.00, have not seen it yet but my main questions are 1. Are the hours good? 2. Any issues with this model? Looked up on the web but hardly no info. Thanks for any insight you may have. The guy selling picked it up on trade a year ago and thinks it 4-5 years old.

My neighbor had one of these and the had lots of trouble with the deck. Deck was pretty lightweight stamped steel and it pretty much "rotted" apart where the pulleys that turned the blades penetrated the top of deck. He had to weld reinforced patches in those areas. However .... this is a guy that doesn't have a great track record of taking very good care of his equipment.
My view is that the weak link on those Swisher mowers is the deck and chassis. I've got a Swisher log splitter that has served me well for 15+ years, but it doesn't get ran for several hours every week all summer.
Price is reasonable. If you're mowing isn't real rough and you keep up with the maintenance, it should do the job. Even if you had to spend $500 at some point and replace the deck, you still wouldn't be out a lot. A used Deere, Skag or Grasshopper of that size could easily run you $5,000+. Look it over real carefully.

Thanks Steiny, I just wanted a second opinion. I have a swisher now but I bought it new and have had no trouble with it at all. Hours are good on this in my opinion, I have a Vermeer stump grinder with the same Koehler 27 hp v-twin with 1000 hours and runs great as long as you change the oil every 50 hours or yearly. Going to use this mower for my Perry county property, right now I have a old sears 18 hp tractor there that keeps breaking down every two weeks. I just bought a Kubota bx25d with backhoe and front bucket with 23 hp diesel engine and can add a mower deck for about $2000.00 but then I would have to haul back and forth as I use the front end loader a lot at home and the backhoe every once in a while. The deck on my swisher is not stamped and its a 50 inch deck so I figured the 66 would be as heavy as mine. Thanks for the info.

I don't know about a finish cut Swisher mower, but I'll probably buy a rough cut Swisher to pull behind my ATV.
I recently purchased a John Deere 525 zero turn, and it is amazing. It was $4K, but better than others in its price range. Why? For me it was the drive pumps. At only 22hp, it's faster than others with 26hp. This all pointed to the drive pumps. It is sweet.
I can't say that you would need to spend that much, but man it is sweet. Anyone who can afford to go on a scouted hunt for Santa's reindeer wouldn't be worried about $4k pocket change. LOL

Sounds like for what you need it will be good. Price is about right and hours are relatively low.
