My old "Beagle/hound mix" Festus, age 13, developed a large, bony knot behind his left eye. I took him in for surgery and they did a biopsy: Osteosarcoma. Festus was a rescue dog, and has been very challenging to own, as he dug holes everywhere, could climb chain link fences, required a log chain when tied (no joke, he broke everything else) and STILL chews things up at age 13. However, I believe in sticking with commitments, and he is a friendly dog who loves everybody. His heart, if not always his brain, is in the right place. I've put him on double rations and extra treats for what time he has left. Here is a picture of a one year old Festus; he ended up much thicker and would practically pull your arm off when taking a walk. Look at that flimsy wire holding him! Young indeed. (He had to be tied a lot at the time because we were in town and he climbed the backyard fence) Just FYI, the bump was very hard, as hard as the skull. On X-ray, it did NOT show up as bone as it was still hardening. Osteosarcoma often shows up on the skull on smaller dogs and on the limbs of larger breeds. Festus's knot showed up very fast...literally invisible on monday and huge on Friday. Anyway, I know a lot of you own hunting dogs and thought I'd share.

Sorry to hear that. I lost a dog very quickly to cancer and it sucks.
Good on you for sticking to your commitment to keeping him. He was very lucky you took him in.

I agree. Good on you for sticking with him. I’ve got a humane society dog now that’s giving me fits, but hoping she will come out of it all. She’s a great dog. Red tick.

Yep that's the beagles in him. They either go under, over, or through. In our kennel we had to bury the fence and run a hot wire on the top. They decided to go through it. Just chew it until they can squeeze through.
Kudos on sticking by him. Even with all the headaches he gave you it'll be memories you'll cherish always.
