Anyone in to using an owl hooter to get them gobbling before daylight? My boss got me one to try, unsure if I want to try it or not.

Go for it. It wont hurt anything. Same difference honking the horn, blast of air horn in can, etc. My buddy does it all the time in Marshall county, and always has birds in the area.

I use one most mornings. Also use a goose call midday.

Absolutely! I use the hooter most...next to slamming the truck door!

I've never been good at the owl call. But they are good tools for those who can use them. And if you can use your own voice kudos to you! I can't do that either.
I do use a crow call around midday though.

A coyote howler, peacock call or a crow call will work too.
I find it is how the call is used that makes the difference.
A few notes on a crow call might not do it. Give it all you have and blast several rapid notes, then follow with a couple more. Works best for me.

I agree with using locater calls sparingly if you are having trouble getting on a bird. You can booger them up by doing it too much and they will get tight lipped and even more nervous than they already are.

I tried the owl hooter this morning at work and had the turkey in the woods next door to us gobbling on the first try. Kinda cool but will use it sparingly when it counts.
