Doe down..... urban zone ( or whatever they like to call it now ) Lake County. They were moving big time this morning. Had one come in and give me a shot at 25 yards. She was down 30 yards after that. Way to go!!! I saw a bunch on the way in to work yesterday. First in a long time. NE LaPorte county.

Out for the youth hunt with both kids this morning. Cool and damp. Seen a bunch of fresh sign on the walk in, hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

Just had a doe with 2 fawns being harassed by a 1.5 year old 6 point. He was chasing her for all he was worth. Got to 25 yards when my boy pointed and loudly exclaimed, "I'm shooting that one." Needless to say the party was over.

I'm in stand with my oldest, looking for her first deer. We had a doe come in at maybe 10 minutes into legal light from a bad angle. The doe knew something was fishy and we couldn't get the gun lined up in the near dark. I may attach a 2x4 as a shooting rail on the side of this double ladder.

Hunting in Switzerland county with my 10 year old son. We saw a huge buck at 6:45 through the binoculars but was to early to shoot. Saw two does at 7:05 and that was it. We are back in the stand now at 4:30 pm. Good luck to all youths!

Just got back in about 15 mins ago. My sister is in from Texas for our grandfathers funeral, so I have her oldest and my daughter out tonight. A little warm, but we have hope they'll be moving. Pulled cards this morning and had about 300 pics in 9 days. Almost moved behind the barn tonight bc the deer are hammering a sawtooth oak behind it.

Took my oldest out again looking for her first deer. We got settled in the stand about 4 pm. I wasn't expecting much movement with this heat, but hoped to get a shot in the last bit of daylight.
About 6 o'clock we spotted a small buck walking the trail we had been watching. Before we could get a shot, he bedded broadside just off the trail, maybe 65 yards away. Over the course of about 20 minutes we discussed if she had a clear shot and if she was comfortable with the shot. We let the setting sun illuminate the deer and she said she was ready. I put on her earmuffs and said take it when ready.
At the shot the buck lurched up and made it maybe 10 yards before expiring. Perfect double lung shot from the .243. Nice 4 point that I have had on camera I think.
Drug him out and showed her how to gut it, checked in, quartered and on ice.
This is her 3rd year of trying. We've had some close calls, but never fired a shot and she was really doubting herself ever getting one. So happy for her. She hasn't stopped smiling since the shot.

Been getting pics of a Giant all summer at my farm in Kentucky. He came outta velvet this week and has been consistently coming by my stand every afternoon during daylight. Hope to send a Rage his way Friday afternoon. Love to post some pics but computer illiterate. Best of luck to all youth hunters this weekend 👍🏼 How do we post photos here? And is Photobucket 100% pay now?

Heavenly Father, It is that time of the year again where we go to the woods in search of one of Your creatures. We thank you Lord for these opportunities and the physical, financial, and mental abilities to hunt. We thank You as we know that there are a lot of folks that would love to do this and cant for various reasons. We count this as a blessing. We pray not to kill a deer, but for the sheer enjoyment of the hunt. We do pray that if we do get the opportunity to take one of Your deer that the shot is true for a quick death and an easy recovery. May all the hunters have an enjoyable hunt whether they take anything or not. Most of all we pray for safety for all the hunters out there. May they return safely to their families at the end of the hunt. In Jesus's name we ask and pray.. Amen Amen and Amen.
