I'm guessing most stayed home or went to work this am. It's quiet for opening day

It's my son 25th birthday today and he decided to go to work so we both went to work. It's hard for him to take off. Only two weeks vacation. Tonight he decides on dinner. We take our son's out to their choice on their birthdays. So no hunting today.

My one day off before a long stretch so I slept in (6:30 instead of 4:20) with the wife.

I sat in a multi trunked osage tree and watched the corner of a field today. I watched a pair of red headed woodpeckers, squirrels, small birds, and turkeys. I didn't see a deer but it was still a great morning being part of nature again.

I normally hunt opening day each year but after fighting the mosquitoes the last couple of days for the youth season I decided to sit this one out .....

Hunted all weekend with my son, besides the mosquitoes and turkeys no deer were seen. He was bummed. Told him that was deer hunting.

Watching acorns hitting a trail hoping the buck I saw a few days ago stops by for a snack. Thermals must still be going up so I'm hunting a just off wind instead of something I had a little more confidence in. And as I prepare to hit send it has now started to rain.

Little guy missing his left side almost got a ride in the truck. Opening day optimism and lack of a perfect shot saved him.

A combination of the heat and that I have to get up early tomorrow for work made me skip tonight. I got some yard work done and a few other jobs that needed done before it gets cold. I made time to shoot a few arrows at my deer target also.

46 degrees, wind is a little chilly blowing in my face. Deer have my soybeans clipped down to about 6 inches, starting to work the turnips.

Hunted both morning and evening and seen a small buck headed into standing corn at 1st light this morning and that was it. This evening was hot and the skeeters were terrible and nothing was seen til last light and it was just silhouettes.

Braving the heat tonight. Set up on a clover chicory plot with turnips 60 yds to my right, water 50 yds in front of me and alfalfa 100 yds to left. Heavy cover behind me. Expect movement to be late.

Set up in a creek crossing in one of the city management programs here in Cincinnati. Heavy worn trails and falling white oaks near me. Bad part is I'm 20 feet off the peoples driveway. Last year they took a 188" out of this suburb and seen a bigger one. I'm hoping for a doe

Been getting pics of a Giant all summer at my farm in Kentucky. He came outta velvet this week and has been consistently coming by my stand every afternoon during daylight. Hope to send a Rage his way Friday afternoon. Love to post some pics but computer illiterate. Best of luck to all youth hunters this weekend 👍🏼 How do we post photos here? And is Photobucket 100% pay now? I wrote up a How To, here. hunt-indiana.com/thread/62329/posting-pictures-computer

Went this morning, 70 degrees at 5am. After sweating packing my crossbow and climber through 200 yards of beans I got to the edge of the woods and at least 100 mosquitoes buzzed and bit every part of me they could. Then I find a tree suitable for my climber and start my climb still being eaten alive by mosquitoes. I get 20 ft. High and pull up my crossbow but I forgot to hook up the pull rope, so I climb back down and start over. Finially I'm up and its getting light, I got the thermacell fired up and mosquitoes are gone. All I saw was 2 raccoons and a squirrel. Did find a scrape line on the woods edge. Think I'm gonna wait for cooler weather. Deer moving at night right now.

I am with you on the cooler weather comment. I light my thermacell and stick it in the drink holder on my backpack on the way in. Might give that a try or wait until the first frost. First frost is my plan fwiw.
