Many of you have watched John grow up on this site. When he was little I would take him for walks at Clifty Park to help build a taste for the outdoors. Yesterday I took my youngest son Creed out for a walk there. It's great to see the world through a kid's eyes. A Walk in the park

Then you can hit Hinkle's after the walk. Did you see what happened to Horst the baker? He and his wife got hit by a car crossing somewhere near his business. He wasn't hurt bad but hi wife might have a fractured skull.

I remember taking one of my cousins kids for a walk in the woods once. He was a little guy maybe 5 or so. He had a million questions, while trying to gab stick after stick because bigger was better to him. We looked a tracks in the mud and minnows in the creek and nuts on the ground. We walked and talked for 1/2 hour or so. On our way back we stopped by a large red oak..."Noah, you know what kind of tree this is?" The little guy stepped back a little bit and looked way up in it and looked me right in the eye and replied..."Big!" I'll never forget that...he was right, wasn't the answer I was looking for, but he was right. Perspective is everything. Something special about taking kids into the woods. They will certainly see things that you have not or at least see them in a different way...

Mine are always finding special rocks or acorns...they have an ability to see wonder in things that we lose. "Big!" that is awesome.

Also...take a kid hunting or fishing sometime. You will appreciate the patience your mentors had with you! It all comes full circle...
I don't know how many times I've had to pull casts out of trees, or bait hooks or take fish off, or hear "I'm cold", "I'm tired", "I'm hungry", "when will the deer be here", "can we go yet", and "I gotta pee". Or hold that little hand in the darkness, or try to get them out of a warm bed in the morning. Or listen to them drag their heels and or step on every stick in the woods along the way.
I owe my mentors a lot...I'm trying to re-pay them, by teaching my kids.

I owe my mentors a lot...I'm trying to re-pay them, by teaching my kids. What you have done will bear fruit! My greatest sin is that I haven't got them out fishing enough. I'm going to start taking my youngest two hunting this year. This is a terrible video, but a great story. My oldest and I were in a two man stand. Off to the right about 10 yards was a bunch of maple branches that obscured part of the trail. John was sitting down, so he could see under them. I was standing so the branches kept me from seeing what he did. A buck walked over the hill in his view. "There is a buck over there," John hissed. "I don't see it..." I replied, and back and forth it went. John finally sighed, "I suppose that's a deer with a tree on it's head." Then the deer stepped clear of the branches, and after I recovered I shot it at 30 yards. It had been chewing acorns the whole time, which is part of why it never heard all the racket we made. He had decent antlers but was skinny as heck, with scar tissue all over his knees and chest. He was eating good when he died though; poor guy was on the mend when he got shot I guess. vvvvvv "dad won't listen" buck

Priceless !!! Thanks for sharing... Absolutely. Interestingly, CF park has a new manager. Seems to be the energetic type...I have noticed subtle improvements, such as freshly repainted signs and better up-keep here and there.

I'm taking Friday the 29th off and my wife and I are heading to Madison, Indiana and to Clifty Falls State Park. Taking it easy and re-exploring Madison and Park. We like the Madison Rivertown area. On the way home if time, we might hit Versailles State Park.
On Saturday we are following the Ohio River in Ohio east and cross over to Maysville, Kentucky. We have never been there. Once again exploring the town etc...

Now you will have plenty of Mexican restaurants to choose from. I have never seen so many for a small town
