Time to retire my black diamond, any suggestions on what I should get. I have my ideas but want to see if there are any that I have overlooked. Price isn't much of an object either. I like the cheaper stuff but I want a good quality, well fit gun that has performance to back it up.

If I was in the market for a new MZ I would look VERY seriously at the Savage smokeless.

Heres my choices in order,
1. Savage 10 ML II.
2. T/C Omega
3. T/C Encore
Anyone of these would be a good pick. The savage will shoot smokeless powder so you dont have to clean it after every shot or shooting session. I hunt with mine all season without cleaning.
If you want to stick with BP subs like Pyrodex or 777 then one of the T/C would be my choice but the Savage will shoot this powder too. If you pick the Savage send me a PM and I'll send you some proven loads that will get you 1 1/2" groups or better @ 100yds. h.h.

I bought the Encore with the knowledge that one day I might buy a rifle barrel for a hunt out west with it also.

Myself I tend to go smokeless but agree that either T/C product is a great choice. I also can add a load or two as well ;D

I stopped in at the gun shop at lunch today, and walked out the owner of a new TC Encore,.45 cal, black plastic /stainless. Bought a scope base and rings, and will Stick a low power Leupold on it. Looks pretty darned simple, easy to clean, etc. I have no intention of ever using it as a centerfire rifle. IMO it would be a pretty crummy rifle.
Anyone shoot one of these .45 cals? What loads & bullets?

Load it the same as you would a .50 cal same powder same type bullet, its gonna shoot a bit flatter but not much. I think the similarities will be rather easy to get used too. Good luck with it. I was going to say get a remington but you already purchased. Talk with you later. My set up is a Remington ML700 Muzzleloader 100 gr pyrodex pellets 295 gr copper Powerbelt bullet BSA 3-9X44 i know its a cheap scope but they haver never let me down over the years.
Happy shooting.

What loads & bullets? I bought the same ML as you last year and am getting good accuracy with Remington Clean Bore primers, 100 gr of 777 pellets, under Hornady"s 200 gr SST sabot. I did not shoot a deer last year with it so I can't comment on the knock down but I have seen what a 250 gr SST in 50 cal. does on one and I was impressed.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I really have not thought about the smokeless. I need to do some more looking. Probably won't get anything afterall. Just bought a mini van for my growing family. There goes the extra stash. Oh well the rate these ML have been changing there is something coming that I will be glad I was forced to wait for. Or something like that!!!

You can get a muzzleloader at Wally World for around $100. Maybe you should do that and see if you like it?

I'll keep my Black Diamond. It is a good shooter but I would like to get one of the newer ones that don't have an exposed firing area.

Steiny. I shoot the 45 Encore, I shoot power belts with 90 grains of 777, I have the 45 acp conversion for the primers (small rifle) with groups at around 1" or less depends on how I feel. As far as the Encore being a lousy looking rifle, Here is mine and I will shoot with the best bolt actions etc. I ahve several Encores and barrels of various calibers the one in the picture is a 243, I ahve taken deer in excess of 300 yards 1 shot kills img.photobucket.com/albums/v401/ourway7/HPIM0714.jpg
