My boy will be behind the trigger next weekend for his first youth hunt. He just turned 10yo, and has accompanied me several times so far. I have had him shooting since he was 5yo. Slowly working up the ranks to deer calibers now. The AR platform is just awesome for this purpose. He was shooting the 350 Legend pretty good, but was a little taken back by the recoil. So I put him behind the 6.5 Grendel, and wallah, he loves it! I have taken him off the bench, and now working off a folding chair and a tripod gun rest. The results speak for themselves! He has really taken to it quite well. This is at 60yds. One shot with 350 Legend, and 3 shots with 6.5 Grendel. I think he has a handle on things now. Deer beware!

He’s ready to rock. Good luck to the both of you. My son and I will be able to get in a short morning hunt, but then he has school events at 11:00 and 7:00 that Saturday. We just received the schedule for that and weren’t very happy, but his grade is more important than a hunt. We will have Sunday as well.

I'm taking my 14 year old out on Saturday, and I hope to get my 15 year old out on Sunday. I'm not sure about the 15 year old - he is grumpy when he gets up, much less getting him up early!
<<<< That's him in my avatar, napping in the stand.

That's how my Sam was when he was 15 years old. Now at 23 he gets up early everyday and is a hard worker. Must be the hormones going on at 15!

I've got a young relative coming to hunt tomorrow. Last cam pull was Sunday, and had nice bucks come by that morning and the previous past a stand that should be perfect for tomorrow's wind. Hopefully he gets an opportunity at something, I don't think he'll care what.

We were already set to skip Saturday due to the heat.
Then today I get a call that my dad got rushed to the hospital. He has an infection in his kidney. To complicate things, he is a kidney transplant recipient of 22yrs now, with my mom being the donor. To top it all off, he has cancer. We are supposee to be allowed to visit, so that will be our plans for Saturday.
If all goes well, we will be hunting Sunday morning as planned.

Good luck to all the youth hunters this year. Enjoy the outdoors and don't focus on killing one. You have the rest of the year to do that.

Hope all is well your in my prayers I don't think he will be posting much in the next week or two. They didn't see anything Sunday morning except a few squirrels. Copied from another post he made tonight: "My dad went into the hospital last Friday for being weak and dehydrated. At first they thought it was a kidney infection. He is a kidney transplant recipient from 1998, and my mom was the donor. He has been in great shape since. One side effect of the immune system anti rejection drugs he needed, was, well a lot of things... But melanoma from Sun exposure was high on the list. He has ended up getting it. Saying it is normally a 6 month death sentence. He has survived at least 26 months now. I feel part of him hanging on was my son Luke. My dad was a lifelong fisherman, and has passed that trait on to Luke. It is his passion in life. I cant even keep up with him now. Well the time has come. The hospital has given up on him since the cancer has progressed too far. We are meeting with hospice, and the timeline is days to a week left. This is very hard on our family. My folks have been married for 47 years. I went to be with my mom tonight, and we were in shambles. Please say a prayer that God will have mercy on him and take him peacefully and painlessly."
