Unfortunately, there won`t be time to sort through all the political theater and get a conservative Justice appointed before the election.

Unfortunately, there won`t be time to sort through all the political theater and get a conservative Justice appointed before the election. Trump has until January, 2021 to get a nominee pushed through. The Republicans hold the simple majority they need to do so and McConnell will push hard for this. It's the legacy he's wanted for years. What this will really boil down to is, can McConnell get the votes he needs. With 53 Republican Senators, one would think it would be easy enough. The reality is that three Republican Senators (Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins and Mitt Romney) tend to not go along with what Trump wants. If that happens, Pence could break the tie. But if one other Republican votes no, it's over. I'm sure the deal making has already begun tonight in Washington...

If President Trump and Senate pushes through before January 20, 2021 the Democratic Communist's party will cry and whine all day long. Watch them melt away. It would be great theater.

If my memory serves me correctly the republicans were crying and whining when Obama tried to push Merrill Garland through. McConnell was just aghast that the Dems would try to push someone in so close to an election. I guess it all depends on where your standing at the time.

Trump will have to put up a nominee and he has a vetted list of at least 20.
If he wins and the Senate is taken over by the Dems he will never get anyone confirmed next year.
If he loses then all bets are off and Biden will nominate an ultra liberal .
This is a HUGE nomination and Trump and Mcconnell will HAVE to go for it. Way too much is riding on this.

Double standards is day one Washington Politics. Just like how Dems conveniently forgot that a Democrat controlled Senate acquitted Clinton. Theyre all a bunch of useless babies.

It`s not a stretch to say that the future of the Republic is in the balance here. No need to bullet point what each side is about, we all already understand all that. If you value your Second Amendment rights, you`re banking on President Trump pushing a conservative Justice through NOW.

I think 2 years ago President Trump knew exactly what he was doing (or at least his advisors did) when he concentrated on getting the Senate majority to be Republicans. I believe either he or his advisors are well versed in the long game.

The supreme court should rule by the constitution and the law of the land, not along political lines. There is said it. Change my mind.

I just saw on CNN this morning that IF Trump and McConnell push a nominee through and the court is set up as 6-3 conservative, the Democrats have said that if they hold the house and win the Senate and the White House they are going to add 2 members to the Supreme Court. According to the "experts" on the news this morning, if the Democrats control everything it's just an act of Congress to do just that.
Is that true? I have no idea, but I'd say the fight is on...

Yeah, the Constitution doesnt say how many Justices there are, its changed throughout the years. Its likely a moot point, 4 Republican Senators have already said they won't vote till after January 20, if they lose anymore that's all she wrote.

As I understand it if they abstain and the rest of the Republicans hold the line the vote would be 49 to 47 in favor. If they vote no then it’s 51 to 49 against. McConnell needs at least a tie so Pence can break the tie.

Trump needs to say “Here’s my pick Joe, where is yours”?
Joe like in his VP has said it will be a black woman. Not the most qualified mind you, but a black woman I don’t think we need affirmative action in the SCOTUS.
