From Mike Hanback's site... bigdeerblog.com/2020/10/rut-tactic-shoot-a-doe-attract-a-buck/For whitetail hunters, what’s a hot scent attractant to use in early November? Try a dead doe! Missouri biologist Dr. Grant Woods has on occasion shot a mature doe and let the dead deer lie in front of his stand. “The smell of an adult doe, especially one in a pre-receptive or receptive stage, is a great attractant to mature bucks,” he says. “I’ve shot several bucks while they were actually sniffing the doe I had harvested earlier in the hunt.” Grant says that even the disturbance of a single rifle shot doesn’t matter when bucks are moving and rutting. “I realize this is contrary to popular belief, but it can work,” he says. If you try this unorthodox tactic, I recommend you use a firearm and aim for a close-in, high-shoulder shot that hopefully drops the doe on the spot, or at least close and within sight of your stand. Be sure you have the proper tags, and that shooting a buck and a doe on the same day is legal where you hunt.

I’ve watched him do that on several occasions on his show. Pretty wild when it works out.

I had this happen on a park hunt a couple of times. Dad shot a doe and she ran and died behind me. I shot a nice 8 point that was trying to get her up to breed her. I dropped.him.and had a small 6 point try to the same a few minutes later.

It works the other way too. I dropped a buck with a crossbow. I went home to change and get help. When we walked back to the buck there were 2 does standing beside it. We had to shoo them away to get the buck. We got to about 15 yards away from them before they finally left the bucks side. He was alone when I shot it.

My dad shot a doe with the muzzleloader. He came up to the house to get my mom to give him a hand. When he got back to her, there was a buck standing next to her and he didn't have his ML with him so.....

2 years ago my buddy shot a doe in the city program. When he went to get her there was a 2.5 year old 8 point nudging her. He got with in a few feet filming it on his phone with his bow on the ground. A 160" class 10 point walked in while all this was happening and he shot it. His dad came and helped get the 2 deer out and wound up shooting the 8 point. It had drug the doe about 10 feet while trying to get her up. Ive got video and pics to prove it, but don't want to post with out his permission.
