Biden as I understand it is going to strike down President Trumps ban on military personnel getting transgender surgery. Now I don’t care if people think they are man, woman, animal or whatever. However I do object when taxpayers are forced to pay for that surgery. Seems to me like that money would be better spent for mental evaluations and then discharges.

Just saw the news report on this executive order. It does not say anything about taxpayers paying for any surgery, but that transgenders could serve in the military. My question is if you do not know what gender you are how are you going to know who the enemy is?

This falls under "none of my business". So you’re ok with the government paying for this if the person is of active Duty status? I believe before Trump stopped this it was being done with the government paying the bill.

He (Trump)said if you have transitioned we will take you but we won’t pay for unnecessary surgeries.... is the way I understood it to be!
So then it was stopped...

So you’re ok with the government paying for this if the person is of active Duty status? I believe before Trump stopped this it was being done with the government paying the bill. He didnt reinstitute the government paying for surgeries, just allowing transgenders to serve. Which is none of my business. I'll tell you why this IS my business....and should be for those who have/are serving. We all had to go through MEPS physicals to gain entry into the military and the list of disqualifying conditions could fill a dictionary, many of them pretty trivial. This affected me personally. On the day of my MEPS physical at the old MEPS in downtown Indy they marched our happy butts up 5 flights of stairs and sat us in a room alphabetically. I was the first seat and they took my blood pressure no more than 30 seconds after being run up those stairs. My systolic was ON the limit and instead of waiting a few minutes and retrying I had to go to the IU Health Cardiac Clinic for a full stress test and in depth cardiac exam on MY insurance (as a very fit 25 year old) in order to enlist. Fast forward 21 years and the Army decides to medically retire me. One of the 2 things that they said disqualified me from service was PTSD. An issue completely a manifestation of my service and their responsibility. Even after I had been in successful counseling for 2 years and was doing great on meds. So NOW they are going to let into the military AND retain people who are so mentally ill that they cannot accept their own gender and body. The military will be saddled with the bills, the lost man hours, the incredibly high rates of suicide....on and on. It is horribly irresponsible from a military readiness standpoint and insulting to those of us who have been discarded because we have had to deal with issues resulting from our service. Oh, and another practical consideration that folks don't think about....if someone decides to "transition" while in the military (or as a federal civilian) their ENTIRE PERSONNEL RECORD has to be edited and recreated to show the "new" gender. This is incredibly tedious and time consuming, I know because I had to do this for a fed civ in my after-mil job.

After a simple search taxpayers are going to be paying for the gender reassignment surgery. Guess it’s everybody’s business now.

I've got a lot of mixed feeling about this issue. At first "Each is own" that is my take any way. They have a freedom of choice like we all do, however when something like this could potentially affect my family in a circumstance where a male goes into a women's bathroom (keep in mind I'm a father of 3 girls) I have a little bit of an issue with that.
On the flip side if one of my daughters decides that she recognizes with the opposite sex then I will have to support her if she so chooses to do so. Begrudgingly of course but I will support her.
I understand how this is a hot button issue and everyone has their own opinions about it. Furthermore I would like to say thankyou to all of you on here who have protected and defended our constitution.
