Good to have a new coach. I am still not convinced Matta because no official release. I have seen IU release the Woodson info today. It does seem like a good fit.
Interested to see what the players do now. Then another 2 or 4 yrs of excuses? If he can get a team to beat Purdue in the next 2 years...he is moving in the right direction. Lol

Good luck to him. I hope he can get some good players! He said his first thing to do is talk to the ones that went to the player portal and try to keep them. He needs a base to work from.

I wish Coach Woodson the best, but IMO this is another wrong hire for IU.
Woodson has zero college coaching experience, zero recruiting experience, and was a sub .500 coach in the NBA. Throw in the fact that IU is likely going to be a long term, major rebuild (again) and Woodson's age does him no favors either.
IMO, the top end coaches in the game today apparently didn't want to come to Bloomington and I can't blame them for that. The school has the facilities, fan and alumni support (thanks for the 10 million to get rid of Archie), but what it hasn't had in 20+ years is a consistent winning record. If I were a top coach, I wouldn't leave a school where I was successful to take on the IU job either.
Maybe all of the above is the reason that the AD @ IU hired Thad Matta as a babysitter for the program. Perhaps between the two of them (Woodson and Matta), the ship @ IU can be righted. If not, Woodson will likely join Tom Crean ($4 million) and Archie Miller ($10 million) as expensive evidence of IU's ongoing inability to pick a winner.

Time will tell. Nothing left to do but root for better days! You would think there has to be better days ahead. Don’t know how long the IU faithful can continue to root for teams like they’ve had recently. That and it’s hard to have good recruiting when you can’t prove it’s a winning team.

IU could be last place, but they were close enough to count last 4 yrs.

I like the hire myself being a true Hoosier himself he is gonna embrace our Rich history ! I think being a head coach in the NBA will benefit him in recruiting as that is where every kid wants to go & he can teach them what it takes to get there . Unbelievable to have Matta , 2 head coaches with younger assistants could just be the ticket. I will support this hire ! Glass half Full is what I see ! HOOSIERS!!

He is from Newburgh Indiana The excitement with the players is good. They needed some life. We will see how it pans out. This big move was 100% for the fan base having past players being coaches. It has worked for MI and PU.

I'll admit that I wasn't sold on Woodson as the new head coach. But adding Thad Matta and Dane Fife into the mix hopefully will help bring IU basketball back to a competitive level every time they step onto the floor.
That's what has been missing and what I think most fans expect.
Go Hoosiers!

They beat Iowa 2x this year and MSU the year before. Just never beat the duds of PU....
