Here's the story, but the end hasn't been written.
I needed a brake for my Muzzleloader, so since the brake on the LR rifle worked so well I got in touch with the gunsmith that made it. I sent a priority next day letter to him with the $$ inside via Postal Money order. I could have written a check, or gave him a CC number but I know he would have gotten charged at least 3% for the CC transaction. Priority next day guaranteed, I thought I'd be safe.
Nope.
It left on a Friday morning @ 10:00 am. They guaranteed it to be in Great Falls, MT the next day or the next day shipping fee would be refunded. Saturday came and went. USPS tracking said it would be delivered on Monday. It showed still being at the South Bend facility on Saturday.
Since then it hasn't moved. I stopped at the post office that I mailed it at and they have a phone call in to the South Bend facility to see where it is. BUT here is what I was told:
1) The $$ for the next day shipping can't be refunded until it is delivered. WTF?? 2) If the envelope isn't delivered, then I have to wait 60 days to get my $$ back from the USPS for the shipping AND for the postal money order.
How's that for screwed up??

By the way, only USPS will ship honeybee packages and queens. No other carriers will. It's fun to watch the USPS employees when the package says 'Live Bees inside" and you can hear them. Same for the other customers in line.

Wife mailed Christmas present to son, in Texas, was damaged in transit.
Filed claim, BY MAIL, claim took the "scenic" route, and claim is still being denied because it was not received within specified time frame.
What other business could get away with such rip-off shenanigans?
In my experience, first class gets delivered just as fast, or faster, than any of their other options.

I shudder every time I order something and they ship USPS
I had a package shipped from NJ that got hung up in Indianapolis for three weeks.
Their so called “tracking” is not all that accurate either. I had a package hung up in NJ and then boom it was in my mailbox.

That's a shame that some places get to pick and choose how they right their wrongs. It seems as if they are trying to make it difficult for you so you'll maybe just drop it.
For the first 10 years of me living on my property the county was charging me too much for my property taxes. THEY decided that they would reduce my spring and fall taxes $5 each installment untill it was paid back. Could you imagine them that graceful if I hadn't been paying my taxes? Would I have gotten by with such an arrangement? I think not.

If you did not know it already, when you pay your taxes, you are agreeing that the amount you are being taxed is correct. I had someone contact me when I was working for the State that they did not realize they were being taxed for a tract of land that the State owned and wanted our agency to try to get the County to refund their property taxes on that tract. When I called the County to confirm ownership, they said that they would not be refunding any money because the taxpayer had paid the amount agreeing that it was correct.

Been there done that with my last smokeless muzzleloader conversion. Two notes inside the shipping tube that the MO was inside the package in an envelope between foam packing pieces (pool noodles) and the dude still threw it in the trash! Sent him another MO and had to wait the 60 days to get my initial $ back.

I had a rifle shipped insured through USPS from a guy to my FFL. When it arrived, the box had a hole in it and the picatinny rail was smashed to where you couldn't get a scope ring on it! I contacted USPS and they said the sender had to file the claim. He kept sending me copies of USPS's replies. First they tried to say it wouldn't be covered because it was illegal to ship a firearm through USPS. They ended up just saying that it should have been packaged better (which it should have!!) and said they weren't paying up on the damage claim. I don't use USPS or FedEx anymore than I absolutely have to.

I went to a weeklong conference in Pittsburgh a few years ago. I sent a postcard home to the family hoping it would get home before me. It did not. It showed up about 6 months later.

I recently decided to return an item I purchased through Amazon. I contact them (Amazon) and they emailed me a shipping label and told me to take it to the nearest UPS store. I took that label along with the item and off I went. They (the UPS store employee) took the item, gave me a receipt and I figured that was that.
Well...a week has gone by and Amazon has yet to receive the package. I check the tracking number I was given by the UPS store on my receipt and it's showing that the package was never picked up by UPS. I go down to the UPS store yesterday and ask the guy about it and he looks @ me and says "you'll have to put in a tracer investigation". I look @ the guy and say, "Why should I have to do that? You gave me a receipt for the package and as such, that should be your responsibility." He scribbles the number down, hands it to me and tells me that's what I need to do. Needless to say, I could feel my blood pressure going up, but instead of telling him where he could spend the rest of eternity, I took the number and left. I call UPS and after 3 tries, I finally get a hold of a real, live person who proceeds to tell me that since the UPS store sent the package, (and the package was apparently never picked up by UPS according to their records), the UPS store is responsible for launching the tracer investigation. So...I go back to the UPS store and a different employee, listens to my story, takes the information and says she'll give it to her boss on Monday.
At this point, I'm not banking on a lot of help from the boss on Monday...

I use USPS for everything. I used to ship bow staves all over the country. They are roughly 3" x 3" x 72" chunk of wood. I shipped a lot of them and never had one get lost or damaged. A couple times it would get hung up at a location but it eventually showed up to the customer. I just wrapped them in black plastic with a lot of tape. I've shipped a lot of longbows and recurves too. I package them extremely well. Longbows go in a heavy carpet roll tube or pvc pipe with lots of bubble wrap and padding. I have started adding side runners on the tube. That keeps it from rolling off the conveyor belts. I build a sturdy box for recurves. I use hot glue and construct supports inside to keep it from getting smashed. I spend about an hour packaging one up.

I've done that in the past, but the UPS store was closer and I figured it would be a non-issue. Amazon has already given me a credit, since the UPS store employee scanned the label Amazon emailed to me. But the package either wasn't picked up from the UPS store, or when it was the UPS driver didn't scan it. But even if the driver didn't scan it @ that point, you would have thought that when it went to the hub it should have been caught then. We'll see what happens, but if it doesn't turn up I assume Amazon is going to hit my CC for the purchase @ some point and I'll be SOL.

Ups just sent a piece of equipment to my address from two years ago, my supplier gave them the correct address on the order. My supplier is just sending me another one while they sort it out. Very frustrating!

I agree!
It was scanned as I wouldn't have a tracking number if hadn't been.
I just hope the manager of the UPS store where it was sent from realizes that it's his responsibility to figure out what happened.
I guess I'll know more tomorrow or Tuesday.
